Ole Ukena is a German multidisciplinary artist that lives and works in Berlin, Bali, and Brazil.
➖
Ukena is known to merge traditional embroidery processes in combination with high-tech reflective and uncommon materials. He refers to his textile work simply as “paintings”. His recent work is typically situated in a place between abstraction and figuration and his intuitive lines create dream-like associations that open the narrative for the viewer to complete. His pieces are well thought through and have a cunningness to them, that takes you to unexpected places: From finding your own story in them, to reading Ukena's title, that usually makes you laugh out of absurdity or smile because you suddenly got a new perspective on the beauty of the piece.

Throughout his œvre Ukena interweaves a variety of media including sculpture, installation, watercolor, drawing, text, photography & video, and has in recent years focused on working with textiles. He started showcasing his work in 2011. His most recent exhibition is called CHURCH OF NOW-OLE UKENA.

The vernissage is this Thursday, 15.9.2022 in a church building in Schillerkietz, Berlin-Neukölln. Other than the buildings architechture there is not much that reminds you of being in a church. For the great opening he is painting the 9 meter church lamp that hangs on the ceiling with fellow artists YAT and Yves Haltner.

During his exhibition he will show the veriety of his craft: From "paintings" to installations and clothing pieces–you can find it all. And you can buy his art right on the spot at the venue!
