It is with a heavy heart, that I wish to announce, that Lookwell Drycleaners will be permanently closing down from Saturday 13th May 2023. It is due to personal health reasons.
I would like to thank all our customers over the last 18 years for all their help, support and loyalty. I would also like to ask all customers to collect any clothing prior to closing day.

Boyle Abbey

The Mac Dermott’s influence as the rulers of the King of Moylurg also saw the establishment of Boyle Abbey, the largest and among the most architecturally rewarding of the Cistercian houses in Ireland. This Cistercian monastery was founded in the twelfth century by monks from Mellifont Abbey under the patronage of the MacDermotts. It was one of the most powerful of the early Cistercian foundations in Ireland and among the foremost in Connacht.

Cromwellian forces wreaked devastation when they occupied the abbey in 1659. It was further mutilated during the following centuries, when it was used to accommodate a military garrison. Despite all the violence it has suffered over the centuries, Boyle Abbey is well preserved and retains its ability to impress.

The original name of Boyle was Mainístir na Buille which means the Abbey of the Boyle River.
