What an amazing Wednesday in Dublin! Thanks to Taisce for inviting me as a Climate Ambassador for Co. Clare to attend a special gathering with our new President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly at An Taisce, Dublin. It was a privilege to hear our President deliver such a powerful and timely speech on her commitment to sustainability and the importance of protecting our environment, especially for generations to come.
We heard insightful and important updates from sustainability specialists including Prof. Jennie Stephens and Emeritus Prof & Scientist John Sweeney of Maynooth University, Dr. Elaine McGoff of An Taisce, Professor scientist Barry McMullan DCU, farming specialist Fergal Anderson of Talamh Beo and Aine Ryall, Chair. of the UNECE Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee in Geneva and lawyers Dr. Andrew Jackson & Dr Orla Kelleher covering all aspects of climate change in Ireland.

The evening ended with a warm reception in the beautiful Tailors Hall 1700s building, the head office of An Taisce and the perfect setting for such an inspiring event.

This is a worthwhile article to read:
* Can you believe consumption of clothes/ textiles in Ireland is currently double the EU average, with an estimated 70,000 tonnes a year ending up in landfill? 🧥
* Did you know that the majority of cheaper synthetic fabrics can't ever be recycled afterwards and are too synthetic to be worn by people in warmer third world countries? 🌍
This gives us all the more more reason to minimise clothes buying, avoid purchasing from a cheap store or online (Shein, Temu, etc are the biggest wastage culprits!..). Good to make a list before shopping of only what you need, set your budget then prioritise just a few quality pieces over lots of cheap synthetic clothes and fabrics. Avoid buying wrong sizes online if you don't know the brand etc.. Know your good quality 'go to' brands! In this way we can all help reduce this clothes waste epidemic and help our planet 🙂
