Had a problem with seeing Stationery spelled as "Stationary" in so many ads

I had to make a protest and wrote a pome.

Oul fellas are dangerous when their annoyed!

Stationary Stationery

It would please me grately
If people cud ewes
Words as they or meant to be spelt

I suppose it makes cents
To spell stationery stationary
Because it dozen’t move
Of its own a cord

But it’s not two much to ask
People to take some thyme
Befour they spell
And have sum consideration
For pendants like me

Overheard in Galway - Episode 635

Nice couple in the shop earlier - they were telling me about their trip. The woman was really impressed with Killarney and Di**le.

"We love Galway, we went to the Cliffs yesterday and to Connemara today. Tomorrow we go to Oslo where his family came from."

"Honey, it's Sligo. My family came from Sligo!"

I told her it was fine - it's easily done - people mix them up all the time.

Just an update on Level 5 and how it affects our shop.

We're very much open for business online and are shipping daily. The shop in Galway is temporarily closed for the duration of the lockdown but will open again as soon as Level 5 is lifted.

We operate a free shipping service - this covers airmail from Ireland to your own destination. Because of Covid 19 there are restrictions in some countries and delays can be experienced.

It's a time of year where deadlines are important and we don't want to add any tension to an already fraught world. Ask us about expedited shipping - we are already using FedEx and DHL and are signing up with UPS at the moment. We try to get the best deal for your location.

It costs a bit more, we don't make any money out of the shipping and are providing the service for your peace of mind on delivery.

Keep well.

Our sister site Galway Bay Gifts making some friends in the South of France.

One of our Galway Ho**er model boats made it's way to France last week and is now proudly on display in the Galway Ho**er Pub in St Laurent du Var (halfway between Nice and Antibes)

The new owner is looking forward to his next visit to Galway and to maybe having a sail with the Galway Ho**er Sailing Club (I said I'd ask nicely on his behalf :) )

It's been a while since we posted but we've been fairly busy - working on a new website which is nearly ready - our online sales are still happening and we're still running the shop in William Street, Galway.

We've had a bit of excitement this week by joining our friend Liam McNamara's adventures at his home beach in Fanore Co Clare.

Liam likes to clear his head by doing some beachcombing at the local beach. He finds a bewildering assortment of flotsam and jetsam and shares images of his finds on his page. We follow the page and have long admired his photographic ability.

Earlier this year he found an American style Construction Helmet. He took some photos and posted them on his page. Some followers shared the post and somebody in the States took notice of the LSU (Louisiana State University) Tigers sticker and surmised the helmet might have come from there.

Another eagle eyed viewer spotted an Engineering Union sticker on the helmet and contacted the Union Branch - the Union put it on their Social Media and the original owner was found.

Matthew had been working on a platform and the helmet had fallen into the Mississippi River 5 years before. It had followed the river to the sea, entered the Caribbean Sea, got picked up by the Gulf Stream and ended up on the beach in Fanore.

Liam made contact with the owner and promised to return it.

We ship to the States all the time and offered to use our services in returning the helmet. Liam agreed, we were ready to go and then Covid happpened!

He dropped in the helmet last week and we shipped it today.

We couldn't resist taking some pictures to prove it had been in our shop. Hopefully it will get to Louisiana in less than the 5 years it took to get here.

Thought we would share the story. We can't sell another hat like Matthew's but have a good selection of other ones on our website 😀

Keeping in Touch

Hi everybody – this Pandemic is still with us and Ireland is in lockdown until early May at least.

We are still able to trade online and still comply with Government Guidelines – I’m running everything from my home and can manage fine.

Our two websites www.irishtweeds.com and www.galwaybaygifts.com are open for business!

We send most of the packages through the postal system. Different countries are at different stages of recovery and there can be some delays because of that.

We really appreciate your business and will do our utmost to get things as quickly as possible.

The principle of doing business with small independent shops is more important than ever – small purchases can make all the difference and are badly needed in this crazy time.

Our landline has been forwarded to my mobile so you can get me on 091 539745 – email queries to [email protected]

Stay safe everybody and we'll help each other get through this!
