Wedding Dress Cleaning: Preserving Your Special Memories
As your wedding day approaches, every detail deserves attention—especially your dress, the centerpiece of your celebration. After all the joyful moments, laughter, and dancing, your gown may need a little TLC. Proper cleaning and preservation are essential to keep your dress looking beautiful for years to come.

Why Cleaning Your Wedding Dress is Worth It

You might wonder if it's worth getting your wedding dress cleaned after such a momentous occasion. The answer is a resounding yes! A wedding dress often carries sentimental value far beyond its fabric, serving as a beautiful reminder of your special day. Cleaning helps remove stains, whether from champagne spills or dirt from the dance floor, preventing them from setting and ensuring your gown remains in pristine condition for future wear or to pass down through generations.

Timing and Costs

Ideally, you should have your gown cleaned within a few weeks after your wedding. The longer you wait, the more difficult it becomes to remove stains, especially those that may not be visible right away.

When it comes to costs, you can expect to pay anywhere from €120 to €300 for dry cleaning a wedding dress in Ireland, depending on factors like fabric type, intricacy, and any special treatments required. While this may seem like a significant investment, consider it a preservation of cherished memories.

Choosing the Right Cleaner

Not all dry cleaners are equipped to handle wedding dresses. It’s essential to choose a cleaner who specializes in bridal wear. Look for someone with experience dealing with various fabrics, embellishments, and styles. Ask for recommendations from friends or bridal shops, and check reviews to ensure you're choosing a reputable service. Cleaning Angel are specialist wedding dress cleaners and you can get an immediate and accurate online quote for your own dress.

The Cleaning Process

A professional cleaner will typically follow a multi-step process that includes:

Inspection: The gown will be carefully examined for stains, fabric types, and any damage that needs repair.
Pre-Treatment: Stains are treated with appropriate solutions—often gentle yet effective—to lift them without harming the fabric.
Cleaning: Depending on the fabric, your dress will either be dry cleaned or washed gently. Specialized methods, like hand-cleaning or wet cleaning, may be used for delicate materials. Professionals often use gentle detergents and eco-friendly solvents to ensure the fabric remains undamaged.
Finishing Touches: After cleaning, your gown will be pressed and steamed to restore its shape and remove any wrinkles.

Preservation Options

Once cleaned, consider how you want to preserve your dress. Many brides opt for preservation boxes, which keep your gown protected from dust, light, and air. A preservation service typically includes wrapping the dress in acid-free tissue and placing it in a specially designed box to prevent yellowing and deterioration.

Storing Your Dress

If you plan to keep your gown, proper storage is key. Choose a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Avoid hanging your dress, as this can stretch the fabric. Instead, store it flat or in a preservation box to maintain its shape.

Conclusion

Your wedding dress is a cherished reminder of one of the most important days of your life. By taking the time to have it cleaned and preserved, you ensure that it remains as beautiful as the memories it holds. Celebrating 50 years in business!

In 1974, Cleaning Angel or 'Coyle Cleaners' as it was then known, was founded. Originally founded by John Coyle, it had two shops, one in Glasnevin, which remains as the cornerstone of our business today, the other one in Phibsboro.

Whilst we continue to serve our customers from Glasnevin, Cleaning Angel today is a very different business to the one started fifty years ago. Today we have vans on the road collecting and delivering throughout Leinster, specialising in cleaning wedding dresses and curtains. We also serve many businesses such as hotels and restaurants to keep their customers happy.

Looking forward to continuing to serve our customers for another 50 years!
