I don’t really know how to go about this so I’m going to just talk and say how I feel in this moment. The sad and sudden passing of Diogo Jota has really hit me very different than the passing of other “celebrities” or “famous” people in recent memory. I find his passing very difficult to comprehend how can life be so cruel to take a young man and his brother from this earth just days after his wedding and at such a young age.
As most of you are probably aware I am a massive Manchester United fan and to say the Jota was one of the very few players that I’ve always said I’d love to see him play for us is something that I wouldn’t shy away from. He always came across as a player who always had a smile on his face playing or the sport he loved to play but always gave it his everything, every moment he played with the ball at his feet.
The reason why I am talking about Jota because like Liverpool FC, they have lost a friend, a squad mate, a face, a smile, that laughter in the warm up, that player on the pitch and all the good memories in and around the dressing room that can never be replaced by anyone or anything. Just like Liverpool FC when Callum passed away we lost all of this and it was taken away without a reason or even a way to deal with it. It’s something that you can really say you don’t know what it’s like until you have unfortunately gone through it. I hope none of you reading this ever experience this.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is Life is precious, short and unpredictable. You do not know what is around the corner for any of us. So be kind to everyone you meet, you never know what a smile or an acknowledgment can do to for someone. I know the circumstances around Jota, his brother André and Callum’s passing are different but at the end of the day it was a loss of a life and a friend gone way too soon.
Rest Easy Diogo & André.
