Time for a machine clean - this little pile of fluff has accumulated in the last two weeks since I last cleaned under my needle plate! And I do sew a lot, so fluff builds up quicker than if you’re only sewing occasionally - but you still need to do it from time to time. So many of the little annoyances and malfunctions are caused by something as simple as a bit of thread or fluff in the mechanism!

It's nearly time for some more sewing classes! This time I'll be offering five week blocks of 2.5hr classes (a bit more time for the same money!) with beginners' classes starting on Thursday 3rd September, and improvers' classes starting straight afterwards, on 8th October. So if you fancy doing a full 10 weeks of classes, you can book both, to go from beginner to self-sufficient improver in one go!

All classes are on Thursdays, but you have the option of morning classes from 9.15-11.45am, or evening classes from 7.00-9.30pm. Why not take some time out for yourself and learn something new, once the kids are back at school?

I was delighted to test the Noelle bag from Hennie’s Atelier recently - it’s quite different from the normal style of bag I choose to make, but I love the compact, elegant design, with its distinctive shape. I chose to use the Notions faux leather from SewWha?, which has the perfect amount of structure for this bag, and the party is on the inside with some beautiful floral bonded polyester fabric for the lining and detachable shoulder strap.

It was lovely to finally visit CoolCrafting in Kendal yesterday! My eldest daughter is a massive fan, and finished making and outfitting her 427th (or thereabouts!) Luna character this afternoon!
It’s a fab shop, and well worth a visit if you’re in the Kendal area - I picked up a crochet kit as a holiday project, because I’m having makers’ withdrawal! 😆

I was so excited when Jacqueline of Sewing Seeds of Love Patterns & Workshops - Singapore told me she was designing the big brother to her Wanderlust phone bag, and I couldn’t wait to test it! A lot of you will have seen my little Wanderlust bags at markets - they’re consistently my best-selling bag, so I was delighted that there would soon be a bigger version for those who want more space.

As well as the practical boxy shape, and roomy exterior zip pocket (features shared with the phone bag), the Wanderlust tablet bag has some extra features too - a zip closure at the top for extra security, as well as interior zip and slip pockets to keep all of your items organised inside your bag.

I chose the Lead Floral water resistant canvas and a coordinating teal mora vinyl and zips (both from Country Cow Designs ) for this version, and it’s going to take a lot of willpower not to keep it for myself - I can never resist teal!

There are still a couple of spaces left in my improvers’ sewing class, starting in this Thursday evening (30th April). Do you know how to do the basics on a sewing machine, but don’t know where to start when it comes to following a pattern, or even choosing one? Then this class could be for you! Each participant will work through a project of their choice, choosing the pattern, and working out how to pick the perfect fabric for the job. We’ll also look at some basic machine maintenance, to make sure we know how to keep our most important tool working well.

It's time for more sewing classes! Starting next week in Oranmore, I'll be teaching a six week block of beginners' classes on Wednesday mornings from 9.30-11.30am, and a five week block of improvers' classes on Thursday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm.

Since the improvers' block is a little shorter than normal (I have another commitment which gets in the way of me teaching a longer block this time) it is also cheaper than normal, so grab a bargain while you can! We'll still have time to get our teeth into a substantial project, and hopefully learn a lot in the process.
