Info about the Portlaoise E-Bikes 🚲(please share)…
Look out for the 50 new BOLT e-bikes in and around Portlaoise town where you can stay active and enjoy the convenience of these electric bicycles.

Launched in conjunction with the National Transport Authority and Bolt E-Bikes, the rental scheme has placed 50 of the eco-friendly, easy-to-cycle E-Bikes at 40 locations around Portlaoise.

Those locations include the council's carpark, beside Portlaoise Train Station, the Lidl carpark, Lyster Square, Market Square, and the Abbeyleix Road. Parking spots for the bikes are dotted around many locations including the Borris Road, Kilminchy bus stop, Portlaoise hospital and near the primary schools at Summerhill.

A live map of where bikes are available is on the Bolt App.

The e-bikes will be available at all times of the day and night, and are located at designated parking points across Portlaoise.

Bike rides cost €0.18 per minute with an unlock fee of €0.20. The unlock fee will be waived for the first two months of the scheme.
The pedal-assisted electric bikes have a range of up to 60km on a single charge and are designed to assist users along their journey.

They are ideal for short trips around Portlaoise and provide an easy way for people to connect with public transit options.

Anyone can rent a bike but first they have to download the Bolt App and input details of your payment card.

Laois County Council has announced that the new bicycles will be available to unlock and cycle by the end of July.

The bikes will be parked around Portlaoise, but will only be available to users who have preregistered with a payment card on an App, and will be charged per minute of use. There are stands already going up on the Abbeyleix Road, while new bike lanes are being built on the Mountrath road.

Laois County Council has confirmed details of this new bike rental scheme, which is coming to Portlaoise becuase it is earmarked as a pilot Low Carbon Town in the Government's national development plan.

Locals, visitors and workers could be able to pick up a bicycle and cycle through the town before the end of 2024, if the scheme gets off the ground.

Good to hear Market will be reopening.

Christmas Market and Fun Fair Update - “Due to a break-in on Monday night, we regrettably had to close the market on Tuesday, December 19th and Wednesday, December 20th. The Market will re-open at 12 noon on Thursday 21st December and will continue on Friday 22nd and Saturday, December 23rd, 2023.
