Last one this week I promise - this is a little Reno we did before going to France, but we managed to get our hands on the super cool Italian 1960’s green sink when we came home so swooped that out - this poor bathroom wasn’t shown any love for years, with a corner bath no longer used, it was filled with fabrics - it’s a little bit on the feminine, but, I had the wallpaper a good while and needed a room to put it in - needless to say, the boys ( actually men) don’t mind it at all - is coming home for a visit next week so it’ll be nice for her - although the lads have managed to add Lego and dinosaurs back into it - .molloy - think you’ll like the sink - x setting plaster on the ceiling, on the floor - renovation

I just love how a simple lick of paint can either ruin, or, make a space - step forward…… our downstairs loo ( & shower). When we moved in , I was in my pale farrow & ball era 😂, so we did the panelling, to cover the horrendous state the walls were in after taking off the worst tiles in the world. It was painted a gorgeous warm cream, ( new white) with the light coloured porcelain tiles on floor and in the shower, I even got a professionally made Roman blind in beautiful whimsical flowers and delicate colours - it was lovely!! Then, my dad died, and my airy light love of bright colours died too I think - that bathroom one day got covered in stifkey blue - I don’t even like blue!! But I thought it was edgy, different, it kinda went with the recently painted black hall -( everything was painted black) how edgy was I feeling?? No clue, numb to be honest - anyway, back to basement jax, it then had another dark blue, then a couple of years later, deep bottle green - and another rush job where I tried to get it done before himself came home from work , as I never even said I was considering painting. It always looked awful, the colours just killed the floor and shower, and there was no budget to change them - so, it’s 17 years on Saturday since dad passed, and this time, we filled the cracks, caulked like troopers, zinzer bin’d it and carefully applied many coats of what now, I feel, allows the tiles to Co-exist ( I still hate the floor, but that’s another days work) - yes! It’s the same colour as the utility, but they are neighbours, and now good friends… I even resurrected a little shelf that my cousin made about 30 years ago from the garage and himself fixed it /
Colour therapy!! It’s a thing - insane yellow in hall is going for a holiday soon - it needs to be less of a shock when entering the house!! Happy Thursday, - I’m actually enjoying all this painting - wait till you see what we did with the boys bathroom before we went to France - it never got it’s day out -

So yesterday I decided to repaint the small hall, it was painted quickly with a can of paint I had bought, but the colour was never right for our house. We had a visitor in the house last year, the kind with teeth and a long tail who liked to eat cables - we had to pull the plasterboard wall and ceiling down and wait till the guest was removed. Anyway, the stone wall is the end of the original part of our gate lodge( 1756) but the now interior wall had chunks of concrete wall and holes and would have been a massive job to remove and rebuild the wall as it would have needed supports, so we decided to panel away from the wall and add new doors and ceiling - this was in November, and all the interior doors were replaced too ( all salvaged, slightly different but with the same new handles) - so the colour I had painted the wall was farrow and ball stoney ground - it was just too grey for the space and felt cold - so I ran off to again to get a pot of farrow and ball Hay in eggshell - it’s delicious, it’s like French butter, pale and warm - what do you think???
Downstairs loo is getting a lick of paint too, sure it would be wrong not to, its sandwiched between the utility and small hall - bigger hall is still insane yellow - so watch this space, I’m lethal with a paintbrush

WOWZERS!!! Brought my brother to see last night , youngest and his best pals were there too - super impressed, even though I hear their music in the house, I don’t think I’d ever actively played them myself. What a show!!! went to see them last month in Munich and had told us we were in for a treat!!!! Huge treat, it really made up for what was supposed to be the highlight of my week!!! Finally getting to see in , we bumped into my old work mate who was also a massive music head, eldest was with us too, as I used to play tricky to him as lullaby music. Shambles is the word to describe this “performance “ I don’t think tricky is well, it wasn’t an easy watch, and after he walked off three times, and cut it short at 50 mins, not an easy listen - so, off to paint my small hall.

Well, we have finally finished the little Reno on our utility room - definitely the most neglected room in the house, half done when we moved in , then life and 3 kids and tons of laundry got in the way- so here are a few before, then after photos. We had purchased the most lovely floor tiles, but as we needed to raise the floor, and avoid drilling through the old tiled floor ( we’ve had disasters in the past) the newly laid tiles kept shifting so we made the decision to lift the tiles, and lay wooden floorboards .
To disguise the ugly pipes coming out of the floor, we built a false wall, but gained a lovely deep window ledge. Anyway, I’m delighted, youngest, not so much as he was hoping for a proper working utility and not one with “stuff” everywhere.. operation getthemtomoveout has commenced 😎. All paint and equipment from - absolute professionals and outstanding quality products - we chose “bassoon” by Little Greene in the end - spot the little yellow tile I bought a couple of years ago in Seville, my colour inspiration, my gorgeous wooden cookie mould I bought from the gorgeous Naomi , and the antique linen floral curtains ( it really pained me to cut one to make the sink skirt, I found - I still have a few more pairs in different colours I intend to use in other rooms - so - what do ya think??? The insanity yellow in the main hall looks like a circus now, so needs to be put in HRT.

I’m absolutely wreaked in the garden this week - I finally decided to take some of the garden back from the shoulder high nettles that I let take over for the past few years … I’ll leave half of it wild for the birds and insects, and, as I don’t use any w**d killer EVER, it’s a safe environment for wildlife ( apart from Ziggy kitkat the murderer, and zebedee doodah, the pheasant chaser. My poor hands are in flithers though, even through the gloves, I’m stung to bits - anyway, I’ll be getting the last bits of the ongoing Reno done tonight and tomorrow, and can finally show what I’ve been at for the past month.. here’s to a lovely summer for us all .

It’s our best boys’ “birthday” today!!! He is 8!!!! We adopted Zeb 7 years ago from .. and he was put at almost one year old - what a change from the terrified little bag of bones, but so gentle for his terrible start in life , but as you can see, he’s my fabulous favourite best boy, and best friend to Ziggy kitkat, and occasional interested party with the hedgehog who lives in the lane - I’m sure we will have lots of ball playing, belly rubs and favourite “something nice” today. Here’s to adopting animals , and not buying them, I couldn’t imagine our house without animals, or fur and dust and dander on every floor surface and under furniture - it doesn’t ever bother me ( or our robot hoover) I adore dogs !!!!!!!! -
