If you could sit down with one figure from Irish history for a pint and a chat, who would it be?

And more importantly... what would you ask them?

"A Paddy and No More" — The Remarkable Story of Lord Edward FitzGerald.

On this day in 1798, Ireland lost one of its most unlikely heroes.
Lord Edward FitzGerald was born at Carton House, County Kildare — son of the Duke of Leinster, the most powerful aristocratic family in Ireland. He had every privilege that birth and fortune could offer. He chose to walk away from all of it.
After fighting for Britain in the American Revolutionary War, FitzGerald returned home with a changed outlook. Inspired by the ideals of the French and American revolutions, he joined the United Irishmen and dedicated himself to breaking Ireland free from British rule. He stripped away his titles, renounced his aristocratic identity, and described himself simply as "a Paddy and no more."
The British placed a £1,000 bounty on his head. On May 19th, 1798, he was betrayed by an informer and arrested in Dublin — shot twice in the struggle. He was taken to Newgate Prison, where infection set into his wounds. His family were denied access until his final hours.
When offered safe passage out of Ireland, he had refused:
"I am too deeply pledged to these men to be able to withdraw with honour."
He died on June 4th, 1798. He was just 34 years old. 🕯️

On this day in Irish history, 4 June 1921, volunteers of the Dublin Brigade IRA carried out an attack on the National Shell Factory on Parkgate Street. The vast industrial complex had been commandeered by British forces and was being used as a motor repair and ordnance depot. Recognising its importance to the Crown's war effort, the IRA set the facility ablaze in one of a series of operations aimed at disrupting British military infrastructure during the War of Independence.

In 1969, a 23-year-old named Jack Keyes achieved one of the most infamous feats ever recorded in the Guinness Book of Records — drinking 36 pints in a single hour. The record was so extreme that Guinness eventually retired alcohol-consumption categories altogether, leaving Keyes as the permanent holder of one of the wildest records ever recognised.
