Julia Hill lived on top of a 200-foot (61 m)-tall, approximately 1000-year-old California redwood tree for 738 days between December 10, 1997, and December 18, 1999. Hill lived in the tree, affectionately known as Luna, to prevent Pacific Lumber Company loggers from cutting it down. She ultimately reached an agreement with the lumber company to save that tree. Look at the platform she lived on, 2 - 6 foot by 4 foot platforms for over 2 years to save Luna!

Garad silk sarees, produced in the weaving hub of Murshidabad, West Bengal, derive their name from the Bengali word "garad," which means white. Garad saris have been given a sacred importance since people can remember. In ancient times, kings and zamindars are said to have draped themselves in these saris while performing religious customs and rituals. Today, during Durga Puja women wear these elegant saris while offering prayers to the goddess.

Yvon Chouinard is the founder of Patagonia - a brand we deeply admire for it's focus on sustainability. He lived up to his statement by giving away all of his wealth and shares to a trust. “Earth is now our only shareholder,” Chouinard, 83, said in a message to staff and customers. “Instead of ‘going public’, you could say we’re ‘going purpose’. Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth for investors, we’ll use the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source of all wealth.” Deep respect and a model for all organizations to follow!

Terri Swearingen fought the construction of a large toxic waste incinerator in East Liverpool, Ohio, proposed at a site 1,100 feet from an elementary school. Her efforts halted the construction of other incinerators around the USA. She was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 1997.
