2up 2down, established in 2008, is a design brand dedicated towards creating contemporary hand-crafted textiles in Shibori, Block prints & Hand-woven's.

The philosophy of ‘2up 2down’ is to create unique and distinct hand-crafted textiles(stoles/scarves/saris/fabric by meter), that have a universal appeal with special attention to detail in techniques of shibori (Japanese tie & dye-stitched and clamp ) married with hand-embroidery and block prints by employing and empowering ‘only’ women belonging to weaker backgrounds. In 2010, was awarded as the

‘Young Creative Entrepreneur Award 2010’, India-British Council, as well as featured on ‘Young turks’ CNBC TV-18 in 2010 for our achievements. Had the opportunity to participate at the Asia House Fair,London,2011 bringing international recognition and a platform to collaborate with international brands.

'2up 2down' in the past has retailed through select boutique stores in India - Melange Mumbai, Cinammon Bangalore as well as custom projects for established designers domestic and overseas, to name a few- Tarun Tahiliani, Abraham & Thakore, Priyadarshini Rao, internationally – Lori Weitzner Inc new York, Giorgio Armani and exports to USA, UK, Europe. With our first sample dip in our new Indigo vat last friday, we could not wait to unravel the piece to discover the element of surprise. And we love it ❤️.

We finally got to doing this. A much awaited and exciting experiment.
We started experimenting with Indigo vat about 2 months ago. And after a few trails with a 5ltr vat we finally seem to get more familiar with the nature and its sensitivity beyond the science behind it. Moving from a 5 ltr vat to 75ltr vat and dyeing our first shibori sample :)
We are eager to see what it looks like!

Innovation has always been the key for us to sustain a craft! We are glad to have met Putaraju, a talented and committed weaver with years of experience but opted another profession as weaving could not provide for him and his family. In our own humble way, we have gifted him a loom, and with design intervention we have tried to make each of his woven textiles, pieces of art!
The capsule collection of saris have been lovingly appreciated and found new clients as well as new opportunities emerge as we post!
Relationships are built over a time with consistency and dedication. We are truly enjoying this new medium and hope to make this a sustainable option for our weaver moving forward.

India is truly gifted with a treasure of crafts, enough room for each to grow!

When architect Mridula from Saṃsāra architecture got in touch with us for a requirement of a textile wall art for an ongoing project, we gladly took it up.
This project gave us another window to showcase our craft techniques. The art work is a fine and delicate craftsmanship of shibori, emphasing on not more than two techniques, beautifully executed by one of our master women artisans- Nirmala.

The artwork measures 4' x 3' on a heavy silk.

Love the playful styles created by ILIO NEMA from our Kumo-shibori tie dye technique in heavy cotton drill. A super challenging fabric to work on but now feels it surely is worth the effort.
One of my favorite brands to be associated with and glad they have consciously and consistently included our beautiful textiles in their collections, crafted by our talented womenartisan team.

Enjoying our first harvest of pomegranate for the past 2weeks from our farm and love how it has influenced our colour palette:) or to that matter our playful and loud STRIPY cat that guards our studio 24 x 7. We never knew it would make such an effortless impression on our mind for us to think in a way that we have been thinking of stripes lately :)

Such a joy to be in midst of nature with abundance of inspiration in everyday life!

A colourful and vibrant Sunday with an enthusiastic batch of participants. The textile patterns were an eye candy using the stunning Sappan wood and Turmeric sourced from our farm studio. Of course, of all the techniques,the most loved was the itajime shibori techniques, with striking bold patterns!
