DijjiN – The Ankara Breeze Dress ✨

I found these beautiful cotton prints at Arihant, Kolhapur, and instantly fell in love with them. The artwork and repeating motifs reminded me of African wax prints, and that is when I discovered the beauty of Ankara-style dresses.

Traditionally, Ankara dresses are made in structured, heavier cotton fabrics with bold prints and dramatic fall. But these fabrics were soft and lightweight, so recreating that silhouette became a small challenge of its own. I added a full lining layer to give the dress more body and movement, which made it much heavier than it looks.

The fall did not turn out exactly the way I first imagined, but for a first attempt at an Ankara-inspired silhouette, I think it came together beautifully in its own way. Soft, breathable, colorful, and flowing — carrying a little bit of Africa through Indian cotton fabrics. 🤍🌿

This one feels like a quiet fusion of cultures, fabrics, and experimentation — the kind of piece that teaches you something while making it.

“Aozora Sakura Dress” 🌸
(Aozora — Japanese for “blue sky”)

Some fabrics quietly wait before becoming a dress.

I found this beautiful fabric in the Nippori fabric district in Tokyo and instantly fell in love with it — the soft sky-blue colour, scattered sakura blossoms, and delicate golden butterflies hidden within the print felt like spring captured on fabric.

But after bringing it home, I could not decide what to make from it for the longest time. Every design idea felt too heavy for something that already carried so much beauty on its own.

So in the end, I chose simplicity.

A soft flowing silhouette, a fitted bodice, and a gentle flare — just enough to let the fabric remain the heart of the dress. The fabric itself is a lightweight Japanese cotton satin/lawn blend with a smooth finish, soft sheen, and fluid drape that moves beautifully while walking.

Honestly, this dress turned out much simpler than I originally imagined.
But maybe that is exactly why I love it now. ✨

DijjiN – Mulberry Bloom 🍷

This wine printed Hakoba fabric from Lulu Shop instantly felt soft, romantic, and a little nostalgic to me. I knew I wanted movement in the dress, so I turned it into a tiered halter silhouette with delicate tie details and a long flowing waist belt.

This piece went through many little experiments while stitching — especially around the neckline and the fall of the dress. It did not turn out exactly the way I had imagined in my head, but somewhere in between all the trials, it became something I genuinely love wearing.

I think that is my favorite part about handmade clothing.
It carries the process, the imperfections, and the personality of the maker with it. 🤍

Made slowly by me, for me.
A soft mulberry dream stitched into a dress.

“The Quiet Hours Dress” 🌿

There is something beautiful about dresses that do not ask for attention loudly.
They simply stay with you through ordinary days — office mornings, market walks, carrying books in one hand and flowers in another.

This dress began with a printed linen shirting fabric that instantly felt calm, soft, and quietly elegant. I wanted to create something modest and timeless — a shirt dress that could belong equally in a formal office setting or in slow afternoons wandering through old streets.

For the first time, I made a collar like this.
For the first time, I spent hours shaping fabric buttons by hand.

The first photograph holds my favourite detail — the handmade fabric buttons. Tiny pieces of effort stitched slowly, one by one.

Every pleat, every seam, every small finish in this dress demanded patience. And maybe that is why this piece feels special to me.
Not because it is perfect, but because it carries learning, care, and time within it.

Photographed in the old lanes of Shivaji Market, Kolhapur, by — among textures, shadows, and stories that felt just right for this dress.

✨ Midori Meadow ✨

Some dresses are designed first.
Some are felt first. 🌿

This one began with a simple thought —
“something soft, comfortable, green, and full of nature.”

Made for Jayashree, this dress was stitched in a light cotton fabric covered in gentle leafy florals, sourced from Arihant, Kolhapur. The silhouette was kept easy and flowy, allowing movement, comfort, and quiet elegance to exist together.

What I loved most was seeing her style it in her own way — layered over a deep green top, turning the dress into a pinafore that felt like it belonged inside a forest morning, beside old stone paths and sunlight through trees. 🍃

At DijjiN, I do not believe clothes should feel distant from the people wearing them.
Every piece slowly becomes a reflection of someone’s comfort, colours, memories, and personality.

No repeated fabrics.
No mass production.
Just thoughtful clothing, stitched slowly and made to be lived in. ✨

🖤❤️ Red & Black Wrap Dress✨

This fabric was one of those beautiful discoveries in Japan — 100% cotton with traditional Japanese prints that immediately caught my eye. It came in two colours, and I couldn’t decide which one I loved more… so I brought them both home!

I made this one into a wrap dress, and it’s turned out to be one of my most versatile pieces — it can be a dress, a top over jeans, or even a light wrap jacket when the breeze sets in.

The last photo is my favorite — Mommy is wearing it as a cozy jacket because she is feeling cold. Somehow, it looked perfect on her, too 🥰

Would you like me to add a short 1-line poetic intro (like “Every fabric carries a memory…” style) to make it more aesthetic at the top?

✨ The Pink Check Wrap Dress ✨
When I first bought this fabric — a simple shirting piece from a tiny shop in Hoskote — I had the Barbie dress craze in mind 💗
But after seeing so many similar pink dresses everywhere, I wanted to do something different.
So instead of Barbie glam, I went for picnic charm — inspired by a Pinterest blue-and-white dress I loved (last pic 💙).
I reimagined it in cheerful pinks and greens, added pockets (because they’re a must 😄), and made it my own.
It turned out light, comfy, and happy — just how I wanted it to feel 🌿💗

✨ Teddy Bear Dress 🐻✨
This one’s extra special 💚
Made from a baby blanket fabric I found in Japan — 100% cotton, soft as a cloud and printed with tiny teddy bears 🧸💚
Initially wanted to turn it into a pinafore dress, but then remembered a beautiful silhouette I’d once seen in Kerala — and this became my inspiration.
The back neck turned out a bit too big (oops!), so I added a lace-shaped detail for a better fit — and now I love how it turned out 💫
From blanket to something that twirls — soft, nostalgic, and happy.

💜 Aaji’s Lavender Saree turned into my Lavender Year dress 💜
This was once a lavender saree, gifted to my Aaji by Swamiji. When Mawashi passed it on to me, I instantly fell in love with the fabric — soft, checked, and in my absolute favourite shade of lavender. 🌸
I had always wanted to make this Pinterest-inspired pleated dress (swipe 👉 for my reference) and after many attempts, this saree finally made it possible. The square checks made pleating easy and neat, giving the dress a flow I adore.
It’s more than a dress — it feels like carrying blessings, memories, and love stitched into something I can wear every day. 🌿
This truly is my Lavender Year. 💜

This one was cut by mommy ages ago — and she’s never really been good with aligning fabric designs 😅
I kept putting off finishing it for the longest time. But finally stitched it last week and wore it out today! 🌸

Boning didn’t sit right, florals aren’t synced, zipper’s fine on one side but loose on top…
And I forgot to add pads, so had to layer it over a slip with some makeshift fixes 🙈

But even with all those flaws, I love this dress way too much.
Can’t stop twirling in it — just like I used to when mommy made me new dresses as a kid 💫
