This handwoven Tussar silk sari is inspired by the quiet geometry of the pomegranate small, precise forms that reveal themselves only when you pause to look. Woven in handspun Tussar silk, the design celebrates restraint, where every detail has a purpose and every motif has its place.

Sari: Deep Lilac Pomegranate Jaal Handspun Tussar Silk Saree

Inspired by the natural rhythm of a pomegranate, its layered composition comes alive through the combined use of jala and dobby weaving. These traditional handloom techniques allow intricate motifs and structural balance to coexist, creating a pallu that is rich in detail yet effortless in flow.

Three days when Odisha tells her daughters — rest. Be adorned. Be loved.

So we did exactly that.

She tucked flowers into my hair. I fixed her pallu. We laughed until our stomachs hurt at absolutely nothing. We ate too much. We talked too long. We sat in silence that needed no filling.

We’ve done this since we were girls.

Only this time, two little girls watched us. Our daughters — hers and mine — running between our sarees, stealing marigolds off the toran, getting alta on everything including themselves. Watching their mothers be silly and soft and completely at home with each other.

I hope they’re watching closely.
I hope they’re taking notes.

Because this friendship, this ease, this showing up in silk for each other year after year — this is what I want for them too.

We came into Rajaw as girls once.
Now we celebrate it as mothers.
And somehow, it only gets more beautiful.

Three days when Odisha tells its women, rest.
Raja Parba is older than most things we call tradition. No fields are ploughed. No grain is ground. The earth gets to breathe.
I grew up watching this swings tied between trees, women in new clothes, a kind of stillness you don’t get to choose for yourself the rest of the year.
Some of that stillness is in every sari we make.

Every sari we make starts here. Not at the loom. In this room. With these people.
Once a year, we travel to the Gopalpur Cluster in Odisha for our Annual Weavers Meet. Not to inspect. Not to instruct. To sit together on the floor, in the same room as the looms and talk.
About what worked. What didn’t. What we want to make next. What they want to try. What the craft is asking for.
Anupriya sat on the floor with the women weavers and listened. A weaver stood up and spoke. The saris were held up together designer and weaver, same hands, same frame and assessed honestly.
This is not how most handloom brands operate. We know that.
Our weavers weave exclusively for Vani Vrtti for no other label. That relationship doesn’t run on contracts. It runs on this meeting, this room, this floor, this conversation that happens once a year and carries the next twelve months of work inside it.
Every sari you wear from us was decided here first.
