Bakhiyaa is her sincere attempt to converge this traditional craft into the expanses of Bangalore and help artisans circulate their skills across borders. Bakhiyaa meaning ‘stitch’, is also a name of one of the 36 stitches of chikankaari rendering shadow work from the reverse side of the fabric. While 19 out of these 36 have perished into oblivion, Deepika endevours to keep the remaining 17 living through her assortment and collection of ethnic trousseau.
