簡素 — kanso. It is one of the seven principles of Japanese aesthetics, and it means simplicity. Not emptiness, and not doing less for its own sake. It means removing what is not needed so that what remains can do its work properly.
We took the name because it described the decision we had already made. A cupboard full of clothes, and six we actually wore. So: fewer things, made properly, kept for years.
In practice that means three shirts today — an oxford, a linen, a dress shirt — and forty garments by 2027. Then we stop adding. Nothing gets discontinued to make room for next season.
It also means we publish what every garment costs to make, down to the rupee. We name every supplier. We cut and sew in our own factory in Bangalore. We mend what we make, free, for as long as you own it. And we never discount.
