"I am a creature of books, you are a creature of books. Books reveal who we are."
Alaknanda Bagchi is the daughter of the eminent writer Annapurna Goswami and the granddaughter of Padma Bhushan Nitish Chandra Laharry, inheriting a rich literary legacy that has profoundly influenced her sensibility. Growing up in an environment steeped in literature and history, she developed an early fascination with language, thought, and storytelling.
Alaknanda is an alumnus of Presidency College, and a writer for whom words have always been a way of life. There has not been a single day in the last 75 years when she has not written, even if only a few lines. Writing, for her, is both a habit and a calling, a quiet discipline that shapes her everyday existence. A keen observer of life, Alaknanda is constantly exploring human nature, culture, and emotion, themes that are at the heart of her stories. The people she meets and the characters she encounters in everyday life often find their way, transformed and reimagined, into her stories.
Alaknanda Bagchi’s Bengali book, “Sakhhakar Oonnanyo Galpo”, has been warmly appreciated by readers for its depth, sensitivity, and storytelling. Building on this literary journey, she was inspired to write this book in English with the hope that it will reach and resonate with the next generation of readers, encouraging them to engage with literature that is thoughtful, reflective, and deeply human.
