He’s been at his machine longer than some of us have been alive. Doesn’t look up much while he works - the kind of focus that comes from doing something so many times your hands stop needing your eyes, and a piece of fabric that hasn’t decided what it wants to become yet.

We keep saying “handmade” like it’s a marketing word. It isn’t. It’s a person - this person - bent over a seam, glasses slipping, getting it right because getting it wrong means starting over.

Every stitch here has a name attached to it. It’s just not ours.
