The birthplace of Ikat is considered to be Odisha, historically known as Kalinga, from where it has travelled to Indonesia and other places of South East Asia and
the Far East. It takes a lot of deftness and skill for a craftsman to tie and die the yarn to a preconceived design and then put it together in his loom, shuttle by shuttle, to reveal the design in all its glory. It is one pattern which machine has failed to imitate, leaving it to the traditional weavers to keep alive this unique craft. We are exporters and suppliers of very exclusive handloom and handcrafted textiles of Odisha. We have qualified designers and supervisors who supply designs and raw materials to selected master weavers and supervise quality and production. This results in a very unique collection, as can be seen in the product catalogue. The Odisha craftsmen are deft at a variety of other skills too, like spinning Tussar silk and weaving it into textiles which look so raw and natural, it is as if nature has made them, as well as appliqué and miniature painting, known as patta- chitra. RAAS tries to select and adapt some of these skills to contemporary taste and utility without taking away from their traditional beauty.
