Why are Chennai’s autos yellow?

The answer is written into the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Rule 364 specifies that every autorickshaw and share autorickshaw shall be painted “highways yellow.”

The rules also prescribe different colour requirements for certain categories, including sky-blue autos not covered by a contract carriage permit, battery-operated autos with a bottle-green body and highway-yellow band, and, more recently, Pink Autos under Tamil Nadu’s Pink Auto Scheme.

But here’s the interesting part:

The law mandates the colour. It doesn’t state why yellow was originally chosen.

So this isn’t a story about an assumed reason for yellow.

It’s a story about how a colour became part of Chennai’s everyday identity through regulation.

At a time when it was just an idea.

A lot of doubts.
And a whole lot of belief.

This isn’t where I want to be.
It’s where I’m starting from.

Because every dream starts somewhere — usually long before anyone else can see it.

If you’re building something of your own,
chasing something that feels bigger than you,
or simply trying to become the person you know you can be…

DON’T STOP.

Keep creating.
Keep learning.
Keep showing up.
Keep believing — especially when nobody is watching.

I don’t know exactly how far this dream will take me.

But I know I’m willing to find out.

And to everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, shared my work, believed in my ideas, or simply stayed around for the journey —

thank you.

Maybe we don’t have the biggest name today.

Maybe we’re nowhere near where we want to be.

But someday, I hope we can look back at these moments and say:

“We kept going.”
