Baragaon Weaves

Baragaon Weaves Baragaon Weaves provides dignified livelihood to handloom weavers of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh. The programme has a three-fold objective.

Baragaon Weaves established in 2014, is a livelihood generation programme for the handloom weavers in Baragaon and its surrounding villages in Barabanki district in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. At present Baragaon Weaves is engaged with 10 weaving families in the village of Baragaon. Fist, to provide just and dignified wages to the weavers. Second improve the social and economic statu

s of the weavers. And third to popularise handloom and cotton weaving and expand the market for handloom products. Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh has a thriving trade of hand woven fabric. However, with increasing mechanization of production, power looms, dominance of middle men and other such factors, many weavers are forced to leave their family profession and migrate to towns in search of jobs. A few families continue to weave and are bearing the responsibility of preserving the age old weaving tradition. The prices of our high quality products is far below the present market price. This has been possible only by elimination of middlemen and direct transfer of products from producers to end consumers. . Pappu ji from Sehri village in Barabanki district takes us back to a time when the sound of the charkha was part of everyday life. In this conversation, he shares how hand spinning once flourished in his village, why it gradually disappeared, and the immense time and skill required to prepare yarn before it ever reached the loom.

As he reminds us, the knowledge still exists. What is needed is recognition, fair value, and the opportunity for this tradition to thrive once again.

Watch the full conversation to hear Pappu ji's story in his own words.

We unexpectedly met Humaira wearing a Baragaon Weaves top—designed by us and lovingly woven by the skilled hands of our weavers. It reminds us that every garment is more than fabric—it carries the stories, skill and dignity of the people who made it.
Thank you for choosing handloom and for supporting the hands behind every weave. 🤍
