It was March of 2024, when Fabiola from Kuala Lumpur approached us to get her 41 years old wedding saree revived for her daughter Shang, who was getting married in February 2025.

Besides the usual, there was a specific requirement to increase the height of the saree by 9 inches without any joint or extra fabric.

The entire saree was transferred to a fresh pure silk base to make it of the needed height for the bride and create this beautiful bridal portrait realising one more beautiful childhood dream of a

Coming to the second part of this , we feel that it is so important to share that it was not just Archana, who was so passionately seeking to get this heirloom restored.... Ruchika, her daughter's mom-in-law was also equally providing inputs and feedback throughout....it was not just four generations of one family coming together....it was two families bonding so closely on this project.

While it was a revival of a vintage saree the passion, emotion and enthusiasm was no less than of creating a fresh bridal ensemble....all hearts waiting for the final saree, all minds keenly observing the process. Sharing this below the thoughts from Archana, who not at all to our surprise is a brilliant writer and a master teller of the stories...

Over the 90 years of loved wearing the zardozi, sequins and cut-dana on my Nani's sari weakened the fabric and it tore from several places. My mom asked me to get it restored. I went to several stores in Delhi, and even Jaipur, but could not find any karigar brave enough to take on the intense and arduous task of restoring this sari. A few months ago I was researching 'Sari restoring...' on Google and Instagram and chanced upon Rangriwaaz. I read their blogs, looked at the pics of saris they'd restored and decided to check them out.

I requested my older daughter's mother in law, Ruchika, who is very knowledgeable in such matters to accompany me. And we went to the Rangriwaz unit in Gurgaon. A seemingly small 'karkhana' we noticed kaarigars at work in the sanctum sanctorom. Ruchika discussed the work they'd do at length with the young and competent manager of the unit. She suggested keeping the same emerald green colour and we decided to go with satin for the sari.

Ruchika and I went to the store to pick it up (and serendipitously, the day we did it was Ruchika's 35th wedding ceremony!). And our eyes popped out- the sari was, to put it mildly, GORGEOUS. We had no words to describe it. We kept ooh'ing and ah'ing over the kaarigari and brought the sari home. And I was excited as all got out.

Starting 2026 with our fondest memories from the year just gone by....this emotional saga of reviving this vintage masterpiece loved across four generations surely was one of our most favourites....And like any take of great love and labour the story needs to be told with details, pauses and of course pictures!

So here's part 1 of the 3 of this beautiful story reviving this vintage doli saree of Mehak's Great Grandmother.

The first picture is of Mehak with her great grandmother or the par-naani, whose doli saree from 1930 she is wearing, restored by us in 2025.

The saree, much loved and worn by Mehak's Great Grandmother and Grandmother was brought to us by her Mom Archana, who in her own words was "looking for a restoration service provider for several years prior - one that wouldn't just see this as a 'job' but also recognize the true value of heritage restoration beyond the economics of it all."

And chancing upon us as we acknowledged her desire for restoring the legacy imbued in her Nani's wedding sari as an affirmation of familial love was a blessing.

Though when we agreed to restore the saree for Archana, she found it a bit hard to believe and brought in Mehak's mom-in-law Ruchika to provide her close counsel and lend her expertise to the review...

More on Archana's initial thoughts and final reactions in the next post.

Do let us know what this story reminds you from your Grandma's treasure trunk....💕

— She dreams of walking down the aisle wrapped in the stories her family had kept safe for decades — her mother’s lehenga, her grandmother’s embroidered shawl, a great‑grandmother’s faded border that once shimmered at festivals. We listen to that dream and bring it back to life with patient hands, careful restoration, and a reverence for every stitch. Each repaired seam, revived colour, and reworked motif is a conversation between generations: a promise kept, a memory honored, a new chapter begun.

This is more than couture; it is heritage made wearable. The Rang Riwaaz bride wears not just fabric but lineage — the laughter, the blessings, the late‑night fittings, the whispered stories folded into the hem. Our restoration process preserves the original soul of the outfit while ensuring it meets the bride’s vision for today, so she can step into her wedding day feeling both rooted and radiant.

From trunk to aisle, from heirloom to icon — we restore the past so she can carry it forward. Book a consultation to revive your family’s bridal legacy and let your wedding day be the next beautiful page in a story that began long before you.
