Lantana (known locally as Ghaneri): a study of the wild blooms that colour the landscapes of Chhattisgarh.

Hand-painted in watercolour, then adapted as prints on handwoven tussar silk. Each saree carries the soft texture and natural sheen of pure tussar.

Back from Chhuri.

I arrived over the weekend, just in time to welcome the first Monday of Sawan. The artisans had already marked the doorway with sacred motifs before the day even began (Slide 1).

What followed were long, grounding hours with the people whose hands make every UNMA saree possible. I spent invaluable time with the production lead who keeps our cluster running (Slide 2), and with the women weavers who are truly the heart of our operations (Slide 3).

Slide 4 shows our ongoing sampling on the loom. Watching the threads come together in real time reveals the immense patience and quiet traditions woven into the process itself.

Before leaving, the serene landscape of Chhuri (final video) reminded me that this slow art is deeply connected to the land and its community.

This is the spirit of UNMA that lives behind the lens.

A tradition that starts on the thigh, not the machine. UNMA is at Kausalyam Bringing Kosa silk that starts differently- our yarn is thigh-reeled by the women weavers of Chhuri village, Chhattisgarh, using a technique passed down through generations. From reeling to weaving, every saree in our collection is touched by the same hands, start to finish.
This edition, we’re showcasing our woven and printed Kosa silk sarees and fabric -including pieces from our Manjari collection, with artworks hand-painted and inspired by Chhattisgarh’s wildflowers.

Kausalyam is presented by grateful to be part of this platform celebrating Indian craft.
