The 2nd KEN Open Team Chess Tournament, led by KEN Chess Academy and KEN INDIA Foundation, brought together chess enthusiasts from Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur, Sangli, Miraj and the surrounding region.
What made the day special was the diversity around the chessboardsโfrom school students to professionals, including an onco-surgeon; from 6-year-olds discovering competitive chess to 65-year-olds still enjoying the challenge of the game.
A day filled with competition, camaraderie and, most importantly, fun.
We strongly believe in:
Small towns do not lack talent or aspiration. They sometimes just lack the right opportunities and platforms.
Create those opportunities, and the hunger speaks for itself.
At KEN India Foundation, community development in the places where we live and work is an important part of our purpose. And chess is one of the simplest yet most powerful tools we have found for children.
At a time when it is increasingly difficult to pull children away from passive screen time, chess gives that same young mind something far more meaningful to engage withโto think, strategise, compete, make mistakes, learn and try again.
700 games were played.
But perhaps the more important game is the one we are playing for the futureโcreating opportunities for young minds in smaller towns to discover what they are capable of.
