HOW TO MAKE EXPORT QUALITY KHADI FABRIC?🤔

1.Cotton Harvesting & Cleaning

Raw cotton is collected from fields.

Artisans remove seeds, dust, and impurities manually.

The cotton is fluffed to prepare it for spinning.

2.Hand-Spinning on the Charkha

This is the heart of Khadi.

Cotton is drawn into thin strands by hand.

Using a charkha (spinning wheel), artisans twist the fibers into yarn.

The yarn count (thickness) varies slightly—this gives Khadi its natural beauty.

The spun yarn is rolled onto bobbins.

3.Yarn Reeling & Winding

The spun yarn is wound onto small reels.

It is carefully organized into bundles so that it can be used for weaving.

Skilled workers check for weak spots and knot them by hand.

4.Dyeing (Natural or Azo-Free Colors)

Optional step depending on the fabric type.

Yarn can be dyed using natural dyes (indigo, madder, turmeric, etc.)

Several dips are done by hand → ensures deep, rich color.

The yarn is sun-dried.

5.Warping (Preparing the Long Threads)

Hundreds of long threads (warp) are stretched out in parallel lines.

Artisans measure and arrange them precisely, ensuring:

correct width

correct length

even spacing

This is one of the most skill-intensive parts.

6.Mounting the Warp on the Handloom

The warp threads are rolled onto the beam of a handloom.

Each thread is passed through:

heddles

reed (comb-like frame)

This takes hours and requires great accuracy

7.Weaving by Hand

Now the actual cloth begins to form.

The artisan sits at the handloom.

The shuttle (carrying the weft thread) is passed between warp threads.

Foot pedals lift specific warp threads to make patterns.

With every beat of the reed, the weft is tightened.

8. Finishing & Washing

Once the fabric is woven:

The cloth is washed gently.

Starch or natural gum may be applied.

It is dried in sunlight.

Pressing is done by hand or basic tools.

9.Final Quality Check

Artisans inspect the weave, fix small knots, remove loose threads.

Every meter of Khadi is checked because it is handmade.
