So what does carbon black actually do?
Carbon black helps protect rubber by absorbing UV radiation and reducing the amount of sunlight that penetrates and damages the rubber surface. In simple words, it acts like a shield or sunscreen for the rubber compound, helping reduce premature fading, chalking, hardening and cracking.
That’s why black EPDM grommets and seals are often a much better choice for irrigation, pipe sealing and outdoor applications where long-term weather resistance matters.
Choosing the right rubber material is not just about cost — it directly affects seal life, leakage risk and long-term field performance.
