Afghanistan’s embroidery traditions are as varied as the communities and geographies they come from.

Embroidery Traditions of Afghanistan at SOAS Gallery SOAS Gallery exhibitions brings together textiles and garments from the Karun Thakar Collection, alongside objects from the V&A Victoria and Albert Museum Silk, wool, beads and coins, worked through regional techniques and motifs, offer a close look at the textile practices of Afghan communities.

What makes the it particularly compelling is its focus on lesser-seen traditions: some highly local, some shaped by movement across borders, and several that have since disappeared or become increasingly rare.
