YARN STORY

YARN STORY A treasure trove of handloom. A house of Jamdani. Shipping worldwide. Studio in South Kolkata. Machine made jamdanis are passed off as handwoven. Thank you!

We founded ‘Yarn Story’ as a way to bring to you the best of Indian handloom. It troubles us that many sarees today are made of yarns that are low-quality knock-offs of the beautiful original work. We see this for example when polyester is falsely advertised as pure silk, slab cotton/polyester or viscose as linen and machine woven as hand-woven sarees. This has led to the sad decline of the handlo

om industry in India, with many weavers losing their jobs and the rest barely managing to stay afloat. At Yarn Story, we ensure the quality of sarees by only using genuine yarn. We make this possible by directly procuring our yarns from the manufacturers and government approved khadi co-operatives before passing them on to our weavers for production. Additionally, apart from the majority of our collection that is self-produced, we also curate sarees from a handful of trusted weavers. This is to add even more diversity of design and art to our collection. Our weavers are experts who come from a rich heritage of preserving our traditional art-forms. They have decades of experience under their belt, often spanning across generations. Since we are strong believers in fair trade practices, we ensure that our weavers receive fair compensation. It is important to us that the beautiful artistry and effort that goes into these sarees is showcased all over the world, which is why we price our sarees to be accessible without compromising on the quality. We hope that you join us on this journey and make Yarn Story a huge success.

A celebration of nature, translated into weave.

The translucence of green organza silk meets the intricacy of handwoven floral Jamdani. Vibrant floral motifs bloom across the drape, transforming an ethereal weave into a statement of elegance and distinction.

The one who weaves it, lets it go.
The one who finds it, holds it close.

The loom asks for time,
the world asks for more.

The saree travels far,
the weaver stays rooted.

Not everything meets in the same place.
But every thread connects.

No one holds it all.
But every piece holds something.
