Indus Loom

Indus Loom Bringing you the choicest selection of both curated and custom-made weaves from the weavers across India woven in natural yarns at reasonable prices. Cheers!

You are what you eat, they say. We say, you are what you wear. Like every syllable in your speech speaks and marks you as an individual, every thread in the fabric you wear inaudibly speaks to those around you. Identifies you as YOU. This page is from people who love dressing themselves up. For people who share a similar penchant. So here's a thread that binds us as connoisseurs of ethnic fashion.

Fashion that is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Indian subcontinent. Also fashion, that works through today's demands, carving an identity for those who like that superb balance between old and new. So we bring you weaves and fabrics that will not smother your spirit under the weight of the heavy pleats or the pallu. But will rather help you release your energy from under those feather light folds. Indusloom brings you the choicest selection of weaves from the weavers across India woven in natural yarns at the most reasonable price. So not only do you flaunt home spun yards of authentic India, you also do your bit to sponsor and encourage the handloom industry at home. So come on, browse a bit, see if you like what you see. And then of course, buy from us! Namaste!

THE WILL OF AMRITA PRITAM

Fully conscious and in good health
I am writing today my will …

After my death
Ransack my room
Search each item
That is scattered
Unlocked
Everywhere in my house

Donate my dreams
To all those women
Who between the confines of
The kitchen and the bedroom
Have lost their world
Have forgotten years ago
What it is to dream

Scatter my laughter
Among the inmates of old-age homes
Whose children
Are lost
To the glittering cities of America

There are some colours
Lying on my table
With them dye the sari of the girl
Whose border is edged
With the blood of her man
Who wrapped in the tricolor
Was laid to rest last evening

Give my tears
To all the poets
Every drop
Will birth a poem
I promise

My honour and my reputation
Are for the woman
Who prostitutes her body
So her daughter can get an education

Make sure you catch the youth
Of the country, everyone
And inject them
With my indignation
They will need it
Come the revolution

My ecstasy
Belongs to
That Sufi
Who
Abandoning everything
Has set off in search of God

Finally
What’s left
My envy
My greed
My anger
My lies
My selfishness
These
simply
Cremate with me.

On the occasion of Rabindrajayanti, Sudeshna sang this kirtan wearing an IL pure tussar. Pity the saree isn't visible.

This song was composed by a 26 year-old strapping young Tagore in 1886 for the Maghotsava celebration and he himself sang it on the morning of 11th Magh in a gathering.

This is a song that has given me immense strength during dark times. Telling me I am not alone. Every one gets an incomplete world. For those who do not understand Urdu, here is a translation in English.

"No one ever gets the entire universe
Somewhere the earth and somewhere the sky is missing
Whoever you see is lost in their own sorrow
They have thoughts to share but no companion to listen
Who is able to douse the embers of time
This is a fire that has no smoke
It's not like there's no love in your life (universe)
Where you hope for it you won't find it there."

PLEASE USE HEADPHONES AND TURN UP THE VOLUME.

Women in India have played a crucial role in preserving traditional art forms, by handing down the knowledge and skills generation after generation. One such woman is Godawari Dutta, who won a Padma Shri in 2019, for her contribution to Madhubani art. This art form is practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar and is famous all over the world as Mithila painting. This type of painting is known for the representation of rituals and practices for particular occasions, including festivals, religious rituals, etc. However, it was only after this 93-year-old bagged the fourth highest civilian honour last year, did India come together to celebrate her.

Godawari Dutta won a Padma Shri in 2019. She was awarded because of her great contribution to Mithila art.
