Karomi designs and manufactures handcrafted textiles - saris, stoles, dupattas and yardage. Our yarns are always hand dyed. We also work with natural dyes.

While design and colour sensibility is our strength, textile textures through combination of different types of yarns and weaves distinguishes us from others. Karomi produces ‘quality handicrafts’ in hand-loom weaving, hand-block printing, hand embroideries, stitching and combined techniques. We work with natural fibres like wild silks, hand-spun cottons and linens. One of the weaving techniques w

idely used by us is the well known Jaamdani (extra weft) weaving, a style unique to Bengal…literally like “hand embroidery” on the loom. Our hand block printing is characterized by the unique method of “print over print” or layering. By this technique, a piece of fabric is sometimes printed almost as many as 6 times over in order to create a very fine “texture” effect.

The Taramani Saree is handwoven with fine handspun cotton yarns that are naturally-dyed by hand in shades of green and yellow. These yarns are interplayed with each other at the textile level to create a two-toned striation of taupe and olive throughout the saree. Inspired by the concept of a starry night, this saree features star-like jamdani motifs placed in different configurations to mimic the scattered placement of stars in the night sky.

This cotton jamdani saree makes a statement while also being comfortable enough to live in even on sultry summer days.
