In Bengal, fish was never merely food.

It was a blessing.

A symbol of prosperity, fertility and abundance so deeply woven into Bengali culture that even weddings included elaborately decorated fish gifted as part of the Totto ceremony.

What we now see as a motif on sarees once carried wishes for a prosperous household, a flourishing marriage and a life free from scarcity.
