A passionate and hardworking textile designer, Anuradha Ramam has been in the fashion line for over ten years now. Starting in 2003 from her small home in Munirka, her interest in fashion and textiles has now made her the proud owner of two major stores in Delhi. rks with different fabrics such as ikkat, kaantha, tussar, silk and hand-woven cotton. Famous for her teliya roomal sarees and dupattas, she stands by her motto which is to combine the beauty of the traditional with the edginess of the contemporary. She articulates her style brilliantly through the use of unique prints, embroidery, mirror work, embellishments and borders. It is clear from her designs that she adores colour and uses it in the most unexpected ways. One might open a seemingly simple saree only to be dazzled by the array of colours found in the pallu. A dreamer since childhood, visuals have always been more important than words for her. Her designs are an extension of her personality. Her garments are tailored to have the perfect cuts and can be worn by any woman of any size. By wearing a Ramam outfit, one takes on a powerful, confident and beautiful identity. ‘Traffic-stopping’, ‘bold’, ‘vivid’ are some of the words often used to describe her clothes. Besides clothing, Ramam has her own silver jewellery line. She uses old silver pieces and combines them with colourful threads and beads to form statement pieces. She feels that the coalescing of the clothes and the jewellery helps achieve a complete look. An active participant in fashion shows and exhibitions, Ramam has contributed for many notable causes such as the Tamana Fashion show and the Indian Menopausal Society, to name a few. Moreover, she has also designed clothes for celebrities from different walks of life. Her exhibitions have been within the country (craft’s council) as well as abroad (United States). She has also shared her pearls of wisdom with design students in the past. Her products have also been showcased and sold in different stores such as Anantham (Delhi), Mogra (Bombay), Origins (Hyderabad), Aashka (Jaipur, Udaipur), Weaver’s Studio (Kolkata). Furthermore, she is also actively supporting over 350 weavers and artisans of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. Starting from the common kurtas, kurtis, dupattas and sarees she has now broadened her range to include fusion wear such as dresses, skirts, tops, corsets, plazzos, bags, and more. She avoids the ordinary and instead explores the unusual. A creative deviant, she is the creator of empowering designs for the modern woman today.
