Delhi based visual storyteller and aesthete, Srishti has been orbiting the Paiwand universe since inception.

From batchmates in university collaborating on projects, to conceptualising the shoot for our recent Festive ’25 collection, our relationship has grown much like we have as creatives.

Ish*ta Parikh x Paiwand

Founder and curator of the niche space in Ahmedabad, Bougainvillea Gallery, Ish*ta is undisputedly a tastemaker.

For the past two years, we’ve begun our year with Ish*ta. In 2024, she hosted Paiwand at Bougainvillea Gallery for the Festival of Textiles (FIT) in Ahmedabad. Earlier this year, she made her curatorial debut, representing Paiwand at the Indian Museum, Kolkata.

We’re coming back to IFAM in 2026!

Taking a moment to reflect on my first IFAM experience in 2025 surrounded by old friends and new. Under the mentorship of , Paiwand found its place in the welcoming world of IFAM. Being in Santa Fe felt like coming home, each day spent with like minded patrons championing the crafts with a passion I hadn’t seen before. It is heartwarming to see such a diverse community rally to support the transfer of knowledge so freely and wholeheartedly.

When we first set up our looms to convert fabric scraps into textiles, we faced a surprising criticism from within the craft revival space. For years I struggled with whether this shift from traditional weaving crafts to our unique style was of concern to the longevity of our traditions. At IFAM I finally found resolution, our artisans, our weaves and our looms were seen for their true innovative potential. Over the years, the craft-baton has been passed from one generation to another and we are elated to carry it forward in our own way.

Care for Your Paiwand | A Conscious
Guide

1. Clean: The gentlest way to naturally disinfect your piece is by turning it inside out and drying it in the sun. A time-honoured tradition, this also significantly reduces your carbon footprint.
For larger stains, consider spot cleaning with a damp cloth and air-drying or dry-clean your clothes after a few wears.

2. Mend: Fraying is a normal characteristic of loom-woven textiles, especially for our unique blend of scraps in between the warp and weft. It does not compromise the integrity of the garment or home-linen. However if it concerns you, simply trim the excess threads with a sharp scissors.

3. Re-love: Our silhouettes are very versatile, consider layering them to fall in love with how they can be styled all over again. The best act of care, is one of mindfulness.

7 Years of Paiwand | Something old, new, borrowed and blue.


The resurgence of the handloom at Sunder Nagri serves and the poignant reminder of the union between the artisan and their loom. With the advent of the powerloom, generations of weavers in our very own neighbourhood found themselves without a livelihood. By setting up in the heart of this erstwhile weaving district, our artisans reclaim their looms, what was once old, becomes new. 



Several years into this journey, we consistently find ourselves borrowing from the wisdom of our artisans, turning to their expertise to guide us through our design blues. Their seasoned hands have consistently shaped how we innovate at Paiwand.

“The sunflower is mine”, Van Gogh once declared. Amongst the first to embrace the yellow pigments that entered the art world, he painted the sunflowers, a bloom almost synonymous with him. In his impasto, he chronicles the lifecycle of the young bud till maturity and inevitable decay. This follows in the vanitas tradition of the seventeenth-century Dutch paintings, emphasising on the transient nature of human actions.

The master’s melancholy is inescapable, finding relief only in his methodical strokes. It was in her initial days of conceptualising Paiwand did find herself disarmed by the artist’s inexplicable sadness, it struck a chord within. Turning to her own medium of choice, the handloom, Ash*ta began to negotiate her shared emotional upheaval with Van Gogh, sadness giving way to courage. 


With our skilled weavers, the tactility of Van Gogh’s works are translated stroke by stroke using textile scraps. No fabric has been dyed to match the colours of the painting. Instead his works were pared down, the simplicity of the colours allowing the artisans to carefully select kattran which best suits each element of the textile painting. 


Paiwand’s looms flip the transience of human nature on its head, giving new meaning to textiles once at the end of their fleeting journey.

Rethinking Silhouettes | Architecture in Fashion

– The Woven Bungalow –

In Geoffrey Bawa’s world, nature and architecture live as one. To him, green, tiered spaces and water bodies form skeletons on which the concrete body takes form. Bawa and his philosophy become our framework, our architectural silhouette finding firm footing in his Tropical Modernism.

Envisioned for ‘s Forces of Fashion, this three-dimensional handwoven structure was delicately crafted using our signature techniques of structural weaving and the technicalities of the double cloth. The flow of water, symbolised in the woven indigo draped textile becomes the central spine of the body that hosts the nervous system. A nod to Bawa’s masterful symbiotic relationship between exemplary human craft and with elements of nature.

Hosted at the beautiful Georgian Asia House, we were delighted to join a cohort of impassioned changemakers at ‘s first-ever Indian Showroom in London. Coinciding with the , our upcycled weaves were more relevant than ever.

It was a pleasure showcase how a craft-first methodology can push the realm of circular design.

As the world opens its doors wider to Indian textiles, we continue to reimagine the endless possibilities of textile waste. Our thanks to all our wonderful friends who visited us. I highly recommend the delightful ’s new book: The Nature of Fashion. A poignant reminder of the power and symbolism of our crafts.
