We were honoured to be part of this collaborative show, "Gather Woods, Gather Words", with Ram Natarajan, as part of NYU Abu Dhabi's Research Kitchens. We were even more thrilled that one of the Master embroiderers from our atelier, Mr. Meganathan, pictured in the first slide next to his work, could join us on this trip to Abu Dhabi.

Our collaborative works, using natural and recycled materials, explore the effect of climate change on nature and man as well as the lingering social stigmatisation of individuals who experience caste-based discrimination that perpetuates inequality in our human existence.

Srinathji by Julia & Sita X Jayesh Sharma

This is the first of a series of our collaborarion with renowned Pichwai artist Jayesh Sharma in contemporary pichwais. We travelled to Nathdwara and visited Jayeshjis studio where we were inspired to create this series of hand painted and hand embroidered art. The first piece we created marries the Vienna Secession with the Pushtimarg sects aesthetic - taking influence from Gustav Klimt and Jayeshjis paintings. Materials used : stone pigment, acrylic, natural emerald beads, semi precious gemstones, metallic wire, glass beads and cotton thread on cotton cloth.
