Why did a customer connect this saree to Sita Kalyanam? The answer surprised us.

A customer recently pointed out a fascinating connection between our Madhyamavathi Madisar and Sita Kalyanam, referring us to Valmiki Ramayanam, Bala Kanda, Sarga 73.

The verse describes Sita at the time of her wedding to Rama:

“Haṃsāṅkitena kṣaumeṇa
kiñcit pītena saṃvṛtām”

The description refers to Sita being adorned in a slightly yellow silk garment marked with Hamsa — the swan.

And that immediately caught our attention.

The yellow of our Madhyamavathi…
the Hamsa motifs…
and the grandeur of its zari border…

Not a recreation of Sita’s attire, but a beautiful visual connection that one of our customers helped us discover.

And perhaps that is what makes our heritage so fascinating — sometimes, someone sees a connection that we may have overlooked.

LV Knowledge Series | Bandhej — The Art Behind the Dots

Have you ever wondered how those tiny dots on a Bandhej saree are created?

They may look like they are printed onto the fabric, but they are not.

Bandhej, also known as Bandhani, is a traditional tie-and-dye textile technique strongly associated with the textile traditions of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Before dyeing, tiny portions of the fabric are carefully picked and tightly tied with thread. These tied portions resist the dye, while the exposed areas absorb the colour.

Once the fabric is dyed and dried, the knots are carefully opened to reveal the characteristic Bandhej dots and patterns.

For intricate designs, this process can involve hundreds or even thousands of tiny tied points, requiring remarkable patience, precision and skill.

So the next time you see a Bandhej saree, don’t just see the dots.

See the hands and craftsmanship behind every one of them.
