“It was like a series of epiphanies that we had.”

For Shoumik Shetty, Courtside didn’t begin with one big idea. It came together through a series of realisations, conversations with friends and a growing sense that Mumbai needed a different kind of social space.

“In my early 30s, it’s hard enough to get a group of friends out of their house,” he says. With padel and pickleball gaining popularity, he and three friends saw an opportunity to bring people together through sport - somewhere you could get competitive, get moving and still make a day of it.

The idea was simple. Making it happen was another story. It took them about a year to find the right space, and the build came with its share of hurdles. But they stuck with it, and seeing their first court come to life made the journey worth it.

Ask him what gets his own adrenaline going, and the answer is simple: “My favourite sport will always be on the court in a very, very competitive match.”

And when he’s not on court, his days could take him anywhere from a brand shoot to a tournament, with a camera crew often following along. Entrepreneur, content creator and sports enthusiast - no two days quite look the same.
