Gramodyog (Village Industries) means any industries located in a rural area which produces any goods or renders any service with or without the use of power in which the fixed capital investment per head of an artisan or a worker does not exceed one lakh rupees in plain areas and one lakh fifty thousand rupees in hilly areas or such other sum as may be by notification in the official Gazette be specific from time to time by the central government. The unique feature of khadi is its capacity to create employment at the door step of artisans at a very low cost. No other activity can match this potential of Khadi. The Institution was started with the aim of attaining sustainable development and generating employment for the mass.
