Here’s introducing a label that combines natural fabric and an international design aesthetic into flawless garments inspired by the diverse heritage of India’s North-East. Sweet details like stylish buttons, unique bows, and distinctive necklines display a strong construction technique. Specially created weaves, an interesting use of vegetable dyes and an earthy simplicity redefines the use of or

ganic material in apparel. Take a glimpse into the world of Daniel Syiem, India’s emerging, young and fabulously talented fashion designer…come return to nature. IN HIS ELEMENT

Daniel Syiem knew that the fashion world was his destination when he realized his true vocation- fashion. In 2000, he won the North-East Best Designer Award and there has been no looking back since. He has presented various collections all over India and his repertoire of fashion shows is immense. He has a string of awards recognizing his unique style and focus on promoting organic and ethnic material exclusive to the North-East region of India. His forte in Western Wear is apparent in the clean silhouettes, seamless fluidity and interesting drapes in his collection. He believes in enhancing every woman’s beauty through simple styling to convey her true essence. His selection in the LFW Summer/Resort 2013 in the Emerging Designer category puts him in the national map. With an intention to turn Shillong, famous for its rock music and natural beauty, into the next big fashion destination, Daniel is the first to start a fashion house in the region. Classic styling, breathing textile and global design sensibility is what Daniel’s collection is all about. THE FABRIC

What gives personality to all Daniel Syiem outfits is the use of Ryndia, a unique fabric. Daniel was introduced to this fabric by the Late Mr. Tennyson, District Sericulture Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya. He inspired Daniel to use Ryndia in his collections and his contribution to Daniel’s signature style is invaluable. This fabric is hand-woven by the weavers of the Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya. A heritage fabric, its making has been passed down from generation to generation of weavers. The natural properties of Ryndia enable it to be cool when worn in summers and warm during use in low temperatures. As the founders of Daniel Syiem's Ethnic Fashion House, an institution to safeguard and promote the hand-woven fabric of the state of Meghalaya, Daniel Syiem and Janessaline Pyngrope are working to revive this fabric by innovating at the yarn stage to create beautiful patterns, designs and vegetable dyes. Janessaline has worked extensively in the North-Eastern states to uplift traditional weavers and introduce new and safe weaving looms. Her present work also includes providing vocational training in the region as Project Manager, B-ABLE Pvt. Daniel Syiem’s collection presents apparel that is chemical free and 100 % organic and feels like second skin. ABOUT A DREAM

Inspired by the rich culture and heritage of the North-East of India, two people joined hands to form the Daniel Syiem Ethnic Fashion House. Independent and pioneering, Janessaline Pyngrope (featured in Fox Traveller’s What’s With Indian Women, Shillong Chapter) brings in the entrepreneurial skills while Daniel Syiem (Emerging Designer, LFW Summer/Resort 2013) holds the creative reins. The vision of this joint venture is to elevate traditional and ethnic fabric into modern, stylish international fashion wear. Blending fashion and style with the essence of traditional cloth, the label Daniel Syiem has started making waves in the country.

A look back to one of my favourite Ryndia collection. A reminder of how much I love to work with this amazing fabric.. its been more than a decade that we have worked towards the protection and promotion of this heritage fabric and the upliftment of its weavers..So much has changed since then and it is inspiring to see how much the weaving community has grown over these years.
