Karwa Chauth 2026 is on 29 October. Is your saree ready?

Red is the classic, but it isn’t the only choice. Maroon gives deeper richness, and rani pink or magenta brings a brighter festive look. Pure Katan silk suits a traditional look, while Georgette, Organza or Tissue feel lighter for a long evening.

Already own your wedding Banarasi? Karwa Chauth is a lovely time to wear it again. Just change the blouse, jewellery and styling for a fresh look.

A peacock on the pallu doesn’t make a saree Paithani.

Peacocks, parrots and lotuses now appear in printed, embroidered and machine-woven sarees too. Authenticity comes from several checks together: where it was woven, whether the motifs are woven rather than printed, how the reverse side looks, whether the silk is verified, and what zari has been used.

And one more thing buyers often miss: a Banarasi Paithani is a Banaras-woven interpretation, not the same as an original Maharashtra Paithani. Both are beautiful. Just know which one you’re buying.

Our practical guide to identifying authentic Paithani

A Paithani saree may be recognised at first glance by its lustrous silk, contrasting border and elaborate pallu filled with peacocks, parrots, lotuses or flowering vines. But those visual elements alone do not prove that a saree is an authentic Paithani. Today, Paithani-inspired motifs can be printe...

"Organza" doesn't automatically mean silk.

Sheer, crisp, luminous — synthetic organza can fake the look convincingly. The real tell? Fibre declaration, genuine Silk Mark, that crisp-papery (never plastic) feel, and a soft changing sheen in daylight. No single trick proves purity — you need the evidence together.

Buying "pure organza" without asking what's actually in the warp and weft? That's the mistake we see most.

Our complete guide to spotting real silk organza 👇

An organza saree can look deceptively simple: sheer, lightweight, crisp and luminous. But that same appearance can now be created using silk, polyester, nylon and blended fibres, making it difficult to judge purity from photographs—or even from touch alone. So, how can you identify a pure organza ...
