When discussing the textile industry, the focus is often placed on the finished product. Yet, behind every fibre lies a much broader impact, linked to resource consumption and material management throughout the entire supply chain.

According to the European Environment Agency, the textile sector is among the most impactful industries in Europe in terms of raw material use and water consumption, while globally it is responsible for around 10% of CO₂ emissions (source: UNEP).

Water consumption also remains a key issue: producing just one kilogram of fabric can require thousands of liters of water, depending on the fibre and the processes involved. At the same time, large amounts of still-valuable materials are discarded long before their potential is fully exhausted.

In this context, regeneration is not only an environmental choice, but also a concrete strategy for resource optimization. Recovering existing materials means reducing dependence on virgin raw materials, limiting waste, and extending the value of fibres over time.

The challenge for the future will not simply be producing more, but learning how to make better use of what we already have ♻️

What an incredible experience at ! 🇧🇪

We had the opportunity to meet industry professionals, exchange ideas, and engage in inspiring conversations about the future of textile circularity.

Together with .innovation, we showcased our approach to mechanical regeneration, sharing how textile waste can be transformed into new valuable resources and applications.

The event was also a great opportunity to present our latest innovation: staple fibres transformed into textile pellets for molding solutions, engineered to meet diverse material specifications and unlock applications far beyond the textile industry.

What was once considered difficult to recover can become a valuable new material: versatile, functional and ready to shape the next generation of products.

What made this event truly special was the chance to connect with so many companies, experts and innovators who share the same ambition: accelerating the transition towards a more circular and responsible industry.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited our stand, shared insights, asked questions, and contributed to the discussion.

Over the past few weeks, we achieved excellent results on raw combed sliver samples containing recycled wool, further confirming the versatility of our regeneration process.

In this case, the input material consisted of a blend of carded and combed wool, combining virgin fibres with fibres sourced from regenerated spinning mill waste. Thanks to our process control and expertise in fibre processing, we were able to preserve the quality of the material while achieving a fibre length of 44.7 mm, ideal for use in the knitwear sector.

This result demonstrates how even complex blends containing recycled content can maintain high technical performance, opening new application possibilities for regenerated wool and supporting a more circular approach within the textile industry 🔄

While pre-consumer cashmere is rarely available in significant quantities, post-consumer knitwear represents an important opportunity to recover and reintroduce valuable fibres into the production cycle.

Closeoop was born from the experience of with a clear goal: transforming textile waste into new resources by reintegrating materials into the production cycle through mechanical regeneration processes 💡

Our work begins with the recovery of both pre- and post-consumer materials which, instead of becoming waste, are carefully selected and enhanced to create new applications. Every input is thoroughly analyzed to identify the most suitable treatment based on fibre characteristics, composition, and the desired final result.

Through our mechanical regeneration process, materials are opened, processed, and transformed into regenerated fibres or semi-finished products intended for different industrial applications. This approach allows us to preserve the value of the material as much as possible, reducing dependence on virgin resources and limiting waste throughout the supply chain.

What makes the Closeoop process particularly flexible is its ability to work with a wide variety of materials, from more structured textiles to delicate fabrics, developing tailored solutions according to specific application needs.

In the textile industry, the concept of quality is often associated with the “newness” of a material: what is new is perceived as more performant, while what has already been used is automatically considered inferior.

Yet, we do believe that this assumption is increasingly misleading.

Every year, more than 92 million tonnes of textile waste are generated globally (source: UNEP), and a significant share of these materials still retains valuable technical properties. At the same time, less than 15% of textile waste is collected for reuse or recycling, while the majority is landfilled or incinerated (source: European Environment Agency).

This highlights a key point: the issue is not so much the quality of the material itself, but our ability to process, select and transform it effectively.

Today, thanks to advanced regeneration processes, such as Closeoop’s one, it is possible to preserve fundamental fibre properties, such as length, tenacity and uniformity, making recycled inputs compatible with high-performance applications.

Overcoming this bias is therefore essential: quality does not depend on the origin of the material, but on how it is processed and reintegrated into the production cycle.
