Whooo’s joining us this October? 🦉🌙
Meet the Barn Owl, one of the most fascinating hunters of the night.

Its heart-shaped facial disc isn't just distinctive: it helps direct sounds towards its ears, supporting its remarkable ability to locate prey even in very low light.

And those ghostly flights? Specialized feathers help reduce the sound produced while flying, allowing it to approach prey remarkably quietly.

The perfect species to get us into the Halloween spirit. 🎃

Time to say goodbye to the Dotterel!

Around this time of year, these fascinating migratory birds begin leaving their breeding grounds and heading south towards their wintering areas. A long journey for such a small traveller! 🌍

The Dotterel also stands out for an unusual role reversal: females are more brightly coloured, while males take on most of the incubation and chick care.

Safe travels, little Dotterel.👋💙
