ReCikli* is the project documented on these pages, the result of a process of sartorial deconstruction and reconstruction on the mannequin using second-hand and military garments found in good condition and in quantities sufficient for serial production. Each of the 37 pieces has been dismantled and recovered by replacing worn parts, modifying linings and accessories with materials also sourced from deadstock. The essential and modular design line is reflected in a structure of only three sizes (1-2-3) corresponding to proportions rather than standard measurements, and in an open system of garments that includes trench coats, classic jackets and trousers, poplin and denim shirts, sailor shirts, jeans, ties, and scarves. The volumes are broad; the space between garment and body is as significant as the very form of each item.
The everyday and conscious spirit materializes in the photographic documentation, the result of Jon Bronxl’s gaze: direct and unfiltered portraits of twenty individuals of various ages and body types, common people who have assembled the looks individually with the sole idea of feeling good in their clothes, activating the modularity of the project and showing how the garment, body, and personality of an individual are closely linked and modifiable. This principle of variations, both emotional and mathematical, underpins all of Mariavittoria Sargentini’s work.
