Tiche – the goddess of destiny and luck🐞🍀🪬

It’s always been a good omen when Tiche brings a little fortune to whoever wears it. With yesterday’s runway, I realized that Tiche has truly been my lucky charm. I had the incredible opportunity to meet some extraordinarily talented women, and I’m overjoyed that they wanted to be part of this magical experience. I’ll be introducing them to you one by one, starting with my studio neighbor, Clara Vannucci.

Clara is an Italian documentary photographer and contributor to the _New York Times_. Her freelance work—spanning fashion, editorial, and travel assignments—has appeared in a host of international publications, including ‘Time Magazine’, ‘New York Magazine’, ‘D La Repubblica’, ‘Vanity Fair’ and ‘Vogue Italia’. She previously taught photography to inmates at the Maximum‑Security Opera Prison and now lectures at the European Design Institute (IED).
_Good neighbors make great stories._

I just love March, with everything slowly awakening and turning green, when you can just feel the warm days getting closer. Taking a cue from nature, our wheels are once again in motion – we are on a treasure hunt for new fabrics, new ideas, as well as preparing some new models we hope you’ll like!

The TICHE atelier will be open only by appointment until the end of March so make sure to call ahead if you want to pay us a visit – we’d love to see you!

Apologies for our long absence, friends! (We do have a great excuse – more on that soon!)

We’d like to celebrate this 8th of March by remembering the roots of this holiday - in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues like gender equality, reproductive rights, and fighting violence against women (all issues still very relevant today, unfortunately).

The first National Woman’s Day was held in America in 1909 as part of a campaign for female enfranchisement, and already turned international the next year, when it was held in various European countries through efforts of activists like Clara Zetkin. On March 8, 1917, in Petrograd, female textile workers started a protest that would soon spread to the whole city, demanding "Bread and Peace"—an end to WW1, food shortages and poverty. Their demonstration inaugurated the revolution. Seven days later, Tsar Nicholas II abdicated, and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote.

Since then, the ebb and flow of the holiday’s popularity has been quite dramatic. At TICHE, we mark International Woman’s Day both because the battle for gender parity is far from being over, but also because it is a great opportunity to celebrate women's achievements worldwide.

Happy International Woman’s Day, everybody!

A big thanks to The Florentine and shemakes for the opportunity to speak about our brand & sustainability

The Florentine interviewed the heads of six female-led realities in Tuscany – businesses, cooperatives, workshops and a historic foundation – to discuss their work with sustainable textiles, clothing and home décor in Florence and environs.

As old TICHE friends know well by now, we strive for sustainability and source all our fabrics using high-quality overstock materials left over during luxury brand production. We treasure-hunt our fabric locally, near Florence, and each trip holds many surprises.

When I saw this print, I immediately fell in love with its colorful and playful character, and its inviting effect put me in mind of the work of artist Helen Frankenthaler. Her lyrical abstract paintings are playful, colorful and inviting, and I could bask in their glow for hours. Frankenthaler was dubbed part of the “color field” movement, and her experimentation with technique (“soak-staining” the canvas) was pioneering. Frankenthaler talked about the charge we get from powerful works of art, and this is exactly the powerful effect her vibrant and spontaneous paintings have on me.

Make sure you check out this amazing artist, and also check out the outfit she inspired in our online shop.

Maximum impact, minimum effort.

Presenting MARLENE allover geometric print top.

This dramatic allover print in gray monochrome immediately put me in mind of some of the varied and impactful work by artist Marlene Dumas, in particular her monochromatic portraiture. I had the privilege of visiting an exhibition of Dumas’ work relatively recently, and her vital, expressive style and frank studies of emotion and of the human condition really stirred something in me. If you’re not familiar with it, check out her work and let me know what you think!

The geometric print in this fabric, although monochromatic, indirectly reminded me of the abstract forms and patterns in the work of early-20th century artist Sonia Delauney. I appreciate her art, but also relate deeply to the parallels I see between our life stories (she started out in painting and then broadened her interests to include stage design, fashion and textile design; I went the non-linear route, too, and went from painting into fashion; she was a Russian-Jewish transplant from Ukraine, sent to be brought up by relatives in St. Petersburg, then moving to France to pursue a life in the arts; I followed my own path from a childhood in Serbia to maturing both professionally and artistically in Italy).
