A white shape drifts toward the shore. The fishermen row out and throw their harpoons.
The harpoons pass straight through it.

It was not a whale. It was its skeleton.
They call it Bakekujira, the spirit of a slain whale that never forgets.

Where it passes, nothing remains.
The village was never the same.

The Baku was the dream. The Nue, the warning.
The Bakekujira is the arrival. There’s no turning back.
