The research aims at the synthesis by soft-chemistry methods of morphology-controlled oxid

e nanoparticles (e.g. TiO2 , ZnO, MoO3) and tuneable porous systems (macro/mesoporous silica or Metal Organic Frameworks, MOF), and at the study of their (photo)catalytic mechanism (formation and interfacial reactivity of paramagnetic defects) by spectroscopic and spectromagnetic techniques. In particular, the possibility of tailoring size, anisotropy and surface functionalities of these systems by employing catalysts (acid or bases), soft templates (e.g. amphiphilic surfactants), capping molecules or particular solvents, has been exploited for the modulation of the inorganic-organic interfaces. This play a crucial role in determining their properties and implementation for the development of advanced hybrid materials commonly utilized for water/air depollution, CO2 photoconversion in renewable fuels and Na-ion batteries. EQUIPMENTS
• Conventional chemistry laboratories, equipped for synthesis of the precursor compounds, thermal treatments under controlled atmosphere, preparation of samples for spectroscopic measurements, high pressure treatments and reactions.
• Total Organic Carbon Analyzer Shimadzu TOC-V CSH for liquid and gas samples.
• TGA/DTA equipped with the connections for FTIR and MS
• X and Q band Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectrometer Brucker EMX, equipped with a 4 -500 K temperature control, a gas/vacuum ramp for in-situ treatment of the samples and a system for UV and Vis cavity irradiation.
• Conventional electronic, vibrational (IR, Raman micro-Raman) absorption.
• SEM and TEM microscopy are available in Unimib
