Happy to share about the class on Naturan Colors, Shibori and Batik that I had last December in Torino at the amazing atelier.

I had the chance to study the world of natural colorants to obtain various color from different vegetals and to explore the manual dyeing techniques of Shibori and Batik.
It has been an inspiring journey, at the same time interesting for the kind of knowledge and relaxing for the calm and highly human aproach of the techniques, quite far from the fast industry that sorround us.

I was waiting for this moment for more than a year, when I discovered and her beautiful works.
Giulia has been amazing on tailoring the corse on my needs in a very few days and fit it in both our agendas quite hectic and challenging.

The results speak by their own for their beauty and vibrancy and open to new potentials for my fabric collections and the garments of

Orinakusan Museum and Watabun Textile Mill, Kyoto.
Throwback to last April, when i’ve visited this sublime museum and his peculiar hand textile mill, both located in Kyoto.

This year I was lucky enough to visit Japan 2 times for different reasons, and both times I had the opportunity to discover and experience amazing textile realities and an inspiring sense of estethic.

Orinasukan Museum is one of these.
Located in the beatiful Nishijin, a district of Kyoto famous for his textile heritage, the Museum has welcome us with his history on jacquard fabrics from all over Japan, beautiful woven designs and stunning collection of vintage kimono, in a traditional japanese building where we have also been introduced at the concept of the old japanese houses which architecture is deeply connected to the impermanence of nature and his seasons.
The pearl of the visit then has been Watabun, their traditional textile mill, were we could see how they work with the old manual jacquard looms (a paradise for a Textile designer!!) to craft the Watabun obi, a quintessentially Japanese sash worn with kimono and yukata.

The visit at Orinasukan Museum and Watanabu Mill has been a great experience, rich of inputs and knowlendge and i’d like to thank the Orinakusan Staff, expecially Mrs Tomoko Watanabe who has guided us among the history and the textile heritage preserved in this inspiring place of Japan.
