WHICH IS THE FIRST ONE?
That's a hard question... If you’re still fifty-fifty, remember—you can always phone a Friend 😆

POPECORN NIGHT!
Tonight, we’re hosting a film night as part of our POPE-ART exhibition! Join us for a selection of lesser-known films by Catholic creators.

First up is “O świecenie!” by Paweł J.J. Modzelewski — an animated film painstakingly hand-painted over ten long years. Paweł found his way to our space in the Vatican by so-called chance and shared the story of his conversion and his spiritual and artistic journey: from working on an animation about the Buddha and enlightenment to encountering the One who is the Rising Sun — Jesus Christ.

Next is a hand-drawn animation by Gabi Oviedo (.ilus). It’s still in the making, but its linework and use of light are already captivating. And with Poland’s own Sister Faustina and scenes set in the Vatican — including a street that looks uncannily like our Borgo Santo Spirito — it simply had to be part of the programme.

Our third selection is a short film created using AI for a competition at the Vatican. We suspect the technique will make it the evening’s most controversial work. But we really wanted to include it — and not just because we’re friends with a priest who helped create it.

To round off the evening, we’ll show an excerpt from a film by Bosco Films (), one of the world’s leading Catholic film producers. They, too, happened to visit us at Vatican Design — entirely by chance, of course.

See you tonight!

There’s something about these two…

Or maybe there’s a little bit of them in all of us.

Adam & Eve.

A 10/10 — just like today’s date

Join us for our exhibition during ROMA ART WEEK!

📍Where?
Borgo Santo Spirito 14, VATICAN DESIGN, second floor.

For our first exhibition in this location—and, after all, we’re on Vatican grounds—we decided to do a little POPE-ART manifesto!

Why? Because Pope Leo XIV is a true phenomenon, already an icon like Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe. Especially here in the Vatican, his image is everywhere—and yet every one of us still dreams of one more photo with the Pope.

But... Why do we want a selfie with the Pope? A photo with a famous person boosts our market value, measured in the currency of likes. But in doing so—sometimes without even realizing it—we begin to objectify our idol for our own benefit.

As a result, this revered figure becomes more of an icon and less of a person. So even the Vicar of Jesus, the Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, and the Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church can very quickly go from Pope to POP ART.

“I AM” is the name of God: “I am who I am.” It is a name rich in meaning, and we can understand it in many different ways.

The answer given from the burning bush can be understood as a way of cutting the conversation short: “It is none of your concern. Do not ask Me. You will not understand, because I am who I am.” Or, as we read in Scripture: “I am God and not man.”

But we can also understand this name in a completely different way: “Here I am. You called Me, and I am here. I am here all the time—close to you, right beside you. Emmanuel, God with us.”

In today’s Gospel, Jesus Himself asks His disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” And the answers are very different—some of them strange, even irrational.

And you?
How would you answer?

Guess what new product we’ve made! 👀

It’s connected to St. Augustine of Hippo, whose teachings inspired the same religious order that Pope Leo XIV belongs to!

Becoming a saint wasn’t exactly easy for Augustine. Before his conversion, he famously prayed:

“Convert me, Lord… but not yet.”

We really love this quote, and we wanted to make something special out of it. Not just another poster in a frame.

And that’s how we designed… 👀

INSPIRED BY THE BIBLE 📖 Rosaries full of precious stones 🥰
And because the Bible is our favorite book you have hear this passage by prophet Isaiah. And by the way, check this Expanded Bible (EXB) translation. Isn't it perfect for international community?

You poor city [Afflicted one]. Storms have ·hurt [battered; tossed] you,
and you have not been comforted.
But I will rebuild you with ·turquoise stones [gems],
and I will build your foundations with ·sapphires [or lapis lazuli].
I will use ·rubies [or agate; or jasper] to build your ·walls [towers; battlements; pinnacles]
and ·shining jewels [or beryl; or garnet; or crystal] for the gates
and precious jewels for all your outer walls.

Lampedusa, a small Italian island just a few dozen kilometers from Africa, has become one of the most powerful symbols of hope and human suffering in Europe. For thousands of migrants and refugees fleeing war, persecution, and poverty, it is the first step toward a new life.

Pope Leo's visit to Lampedusa reminds the world that behind every journey is a human person, created in the image of God, deserving of dignity, compassion, and hope.

One of the most powerful messages shared by pope Leo is:

"Human dignity has no passport and does not lose its value when crossing a border."

These words reflect the heart of the Gospel and the Church's call to recognize Christ in every person, especially those on the margins. Because...

God's love has no border!

POSTER, SOFA AND GOOD DESIGN
What should the Vatican learn from pope Leo’s pilgrimage to Spain?

Design matters.

Whether it’s a promotional poster, a welcome banner, or the visual identity of the entire event, everything feels modern, simple, and remarkably clear. Elegant without trying too hard.

Something we hadn't seen in the Vatican for a very long time...

Instead of kitschy frames, excessive ornamentation, and decorations imitating past centuries, the organizers chose clean graphic elements that work perfectly both from a distance—essential for a large outdoor gathering—and up close, where every detail is exposed by cameras and high-definition broadcasts.

And there’s another fascinating lesson here: the power of visual storytelling. Notice how, thanks to a giant LED screen, what could have felt like a film studio with comfortable sofas was instantly transformed into a sacred space. Just a few monumental images showcasing masterpieces of Spanish religious art—and suddenly, it became an adoration chapel. ❤️

A reminder that great design doesn’t distract from the message. It helps people encounter it. ✨

POPE LEO AND OUR FIGURINE 😵‍💫🥴😶🫨🥲
Do you see this??? Because we still can’t wrap our heads around it!!!

Pope Leo XIV has just received the “Papa Leone” figurine made by Vatican Design, and it was certainly something he did not expect! Not only because it’s amusing to see yourself as a figurine (😅), but also because it came with a whole set of accessories: a mini exhortation Dilexi Te, his favorite Chicago pizza, and an Americano coffee!!!

Let us just add that all of this happened on the 45th anniversary of the assassination attempt on John Paul II and on the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima! A coincidence? We don’t think so!!!

And of course, words of appreciation for our brave intermediary! You can always count on Polish scouts! Thanks, Alinka!
