Last Tuesday, at Spazio Vitale Barberis Canonico in Milan, we paid tribute to Solaro® Made in Italy.
Amid lights, reflections, and music, friends, tailors, and enthusiasts came together to celebrate the passion for the most iconic fabric in history, one that has continued to inspire generations for over a century.

With its iridescent reflections and its unique elegance, Solaro® thus conquered the tailors of Savile Row and then across the world, becoming an icon of classic men’s clothing. From then on, its story took a new direction.

In the early 20th century, an English doctor of Italian origins was studying a fabric which would be suitable to protect British troops stationed in the Tropics from the sun’s rays.
His research did not have the desired results, and yet he left behind something extraordinary and unexpected which would go on to stand the test of time.
This is how the story of Solaro® began.

This year, Vitale Barberis Canonico makes it to the World Cup.
Our fabric will dress the Ecuador national football team in their official suiting, crafted by Dormel.
We can’t predict what will happen on the pitch, but in the spirit of fair play, we must admit: Ecuador are looking rather well dressed!

“Weaving Generations”: elegance changes with every new generation, but always retains its essence. In the dialogue between Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z, with Tomaso Galli and Erica Corbellini, co-authors, joined by Richard Bao and Diego Kress, contributors to the book “Delivering the Dream”, Vitale Barberis Canonico creates an intimate and contemporary narrative of the value of style, of memory and of identity.

“Delivering the Dream” comes alive in the Vitale Barberis Canonico showroom in a discussion to talk about different experiences and prospectives of today’s fashion & luxury world.
Alongside the authors of the book “Delivering the Dream,” Erica Corbellini, Tenured Lecturer at Bocconi University, Department of Management and Technology; and Tomaso Galli, strategic adviser in fashion communications and marketing, the other participants are Richard Bao, brand strategist and cross-cultural consultant; and Diego Kress, a young student who is passionate about the fashion universe. An open conversation moving between research, strategy and new creative sensibilities, which explores the central topics of the book: desirability, cultural identity and the construction of the value of modern luxury.

Few colours understand how to interpret the depth of a face as does purple. Cooler tones enhance light, rosy tints, while the warmer tones softly envelop more golden complexions. Purple is a colour that shapes without hardening, that gives intensity without rigidity and natural elegance without ostentation.

Among the dyes which have marked history, purple holds a special place. For centuries, it was a colour reserved for the nobility, not only because of the rarity of the pigments used, but for the aura of prestige which had built up around it. When, in the 1800s, the first synthetic dye in history was discovered - mauveine – purple suddenly became accessible to everyone and it conquered Europe: from crinolines to silks, it transformed cities into a mosaic of new colours. Since then, purple has remained a colour of great character, able to bring together elegance and experimentation with its own unique twist.
