Purpose
I've always thought that my purpose was to connect people. To network, to know people, to be the one you turned to when you needed something or someone.
And I know many people.
I know teachers and professors, farmers and growers, designers and sewists, copper-benders and silver-smiths.
I seek to connect people to where they are needed and where their needs are met.

Cooperative Economics
Did you know that the Black community has a lot of purchasing power? We work hard, and we do make money. The question is: where does that money go?
We tend to spend it on name brands owned by races other than ourselves, and here in Jamaica, we're quicker to spend at the Chinese man's shop than at a black-owned store.
The Black community is hemorrhaging money.
What does Cooperative Economics mean to me?
It means purchasing power. It means choosing to spend within the Black community and keeping those funds in circulation, as other races do.
It means keeping the dollar Black.

What is self-determination?
Is it knowledge of self? Is it strength of character? Is it standing up for what you believe is right? Is it walking the path your spirit set for you?
I believe it is all these things. To have self-determination is to walk with your head held high, knowing that your spirit is aligned, knowing your heart is light, and your mind is at ease.
I think Kujichagulia, self-determination, is to be True to Spirit.

On this, the first day of Kwanzaa, I was very honored to host my family for the first time in my home.
The day started with cooking rice and peas, escovitch fish, and quinoa salad with my man. Then, the doors opened to our family, bringing pots, pans, and bowls filled with food. We welcomed elders, aunties, uncles, parents, cousins, and our home filled with love.
