What would be of us if we were just born in another place, or a few years earlier, or later? Where would we be now? Would we see things in a different way? Would we still be alive?

Questions my mind while walking through ALFREDO JAAR YOU AND ME AND THE OTHERS. Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. Through March 29.

It was a pleasure to join friends and colleagues at the Embassy of Italy in Tokyo for the official launch of IDJ (Italian Design Japan), a new association created to support Italian creatives working in Japan and to promote dialogue on design between the two countries.

The event featured a lecture by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who presented his projects in Italy, offering a meaningful starting point for this cross-cultural exchange.

Heartfelt thanks to Ambassador Gianluigi Benedetti and the Embassy of Italy () for their warm hospitality and strong support of design; to Matteo Belfiore (.matte.o), founder and president of IDJ, for leading this important initiative; and to Kengo Kuma () for his inspiring and insightful presentation.

I love wandering around empty museums. When the halls are empty, and the negative space becomes one with the art, when the silence is so deep that you can hear yourself think.

A quiet, soul-searching Wednesday morning at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, immersed in minimalism. Sol Lewitt Open Structure, on view until April 2nd.

Soft Time -Many people think of hardship and adversities as “hard time”. Hard time is illness, recession, divorce, even prison; hard time is tough, cold and abrasive. Conversely, these people feel that the really enjoyable time: a new romance, an extended holiday, a promotion, a dinner with friends... is warm, cuddly and cozy... soft time. -Plush clock is a soft, warm and cozy wool blanket, held on the wall by twelve pushpins, which also mark the hours. From “About Time”, my ongoing investigation of the idiosyncratic relationships we develop with the concept of time.

The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum isn’t just a building; it’s a natural experience designed to flow with wind, light, water, and vegetation.

The design splits the museum into two distinct halves, separated by a serene canal that mirrors the city’s maritime heritage. Connecting the two structures is an elegant glass bridge, offering visitors a unique journey over water. Look up, and you’ll discover a lush, accessible roof garden that seamlessly connects to the adjacent seaside park.

The facades facing the canal are clad with natural granite louvers, which masterfully filters sunlight, creating dynamic shadows and a comfortable, breezy environment. A contemporary take on traditional Nagasaki verandas, blending heritage with modern design.

A stunning example of architecture harmonizing with its environment, and local culture.

One of my all-time favorite designs — the Arachnolamp 🕷️

Inspired by the climbing abilities of spiders, it's a versatile all-surface lamp that can rest on a table, mount to a wall, or hang from a ceiling using its integrated hook.
I created it years ago for Benza, my now-defunct physical brand, back in NYC. At the time, it was carried by Design Within Reach.
